Help! Is this a real Scotty Cameron Newport 2?

I purchased the club from eBay (I know my first mistake). After receiving the club I don't have a good feeling about it. First the grip is not the same as was pictured in the listing and after watching reading several review I believe the grip is fake which was my first sign. Secondly I tried the magnet test with a basic fridge magnet and it stuck all over the club with pretty significant strength. After receiving the club and messaging the seller they said they had purchased the club from Golf Smith on liquidation for cash and couldn't provide a proof of purchase (the biggest red flag). Any help before I open a dispute is much appreciated. I have much to learn about Scotty Cameron's and next time I will do everything the right way by purchasing from an authorized dealer.

Bob Ford(Oakmont) had a fake given to him by a member that was in Bob's words "flawless," and yea, it passed the magnet test. Cameron wanted the putter back badly because apparently this source had come onto their radar and Bob swapped the Member out with one from the rack in the shop.

I'm sorry that you're not going to be as fortunate if this turns out to be bogus.

I thought the deal might have been too good to be true but it was a spur of the moment purchase and my heart beat out my brain. I have wanted a Scotty for 12+ years and after being able to finally do it I should have just done it the right way. I am currently in discussions with the seller to return the item for a full refund plus shipping (this gives me some hope it is in fact authentic) and I am going to bring it to a local shop later in the day and try to compare the two. I have been lurking the forum for many years but this gave me the final bump to create an account and post. I hope to become much more active this year.

I mean the putter looks bang on to me, the grip does too from the pictures.

I don't know what to say about the magnet test. This putter has a bunch of screws and stuff in it, is it possible the magnet is sticking to that?

I would take it in to a store that sells Scottys and compare it side by side.

Face milling pattern, Paintfill color and quality, fonts are areas where counterfeiters screw up. Also you can do the magnet check.

My only observation is that it LOOKS like the face of the insert doesn't align perfectly (on the same plane) with the rest of the face. (Could just be the lighting, or the angle of the pics, etc.)

If this is true, then it would be pretty absurd to produce any legit putter where you didn't have a completely uniformly-flat face.

If that is a fake it is one of the better ones I have seen. A couple things for me that tip it off as a probably fake, the head cover looks off for some reason, possibly where the trademark sign is. Also its there not supposed to be a milling line to the right of the cavity on the flange (shown in the attached picture)

Good eye stagolfer06...I just checked an authentic one I purchsed from Dick's. You're right about the milling line...

I agree the club with everyone above, The club head look perfect. The concern for me which made me start to think about it authenticity is the matador grip. The coloring seems off (I.e. It's all one color), aren't the dots supposed to be darker than the rest of the grip almost two tone? Also when I measured the length of the grip it came in at just under 10 7/8ths inches and didn't look what appeared to Cameron quality fit and finish. There were lost if lose plastic pieces hanging off and exposed/excess glue around the top and base.

I'm pretty sure it's fake, sorry to say. The neck milling in the provided pictures is out (it stood out to me almost immediately that something was off there before I even looked closely). The head cover is fake you can tell by the edges. It should be sewn up to look more like piping (round) than what we see here as well as the shape is wrong, it should be more of a 90 degree.

Titleist on the heel is milled too close to the edge and the insert has too deep of a bevel at the joints. The outside edges don't have enough bevel or rounding on them.

Titleist on the face looks strange and doesn't seem to be oriented properly

neck shape looks different and milling is different

coloring in the dots looks cheap

You can also report the counterfeit to Titleist, http://www.titleist.com/customer-service/report-counterfeit-product

I think you can list the ebay seller name in the form as well but not sure if you want to take it that far. Glad to hear the seller accepted your return.

Those ones that say Newport two that have the Newport bumpers are so easy to spot!

Agreed i have contacted eBay and they have refunded me my money. We are currently working out what to do with the club. I want to send to titleist for them to check out but will wait to hear back before i take any actions.

I second this. I'm no lawyer, but I am pretty sure it is a federal offense to send a counterfeit good via USPS. I know Paypal sometimes asks for the product to be shipped to specific location to be destroyed, and somehow this circumvents the whole federal offense issue.

Yup, this had my fooled until I started comparing pictures literally side by side

dead fake. on these the fakes are not as smooth around the corners as the real one. the first photo of the neck is all wacky too.

as all have said, it's fake and a pretty good one. The reality is that this head was "cast" and not made in a CNC mill...as already been pointed out, the milling lines and overall cleanliness of the cuts are missing - look at the first picture the neck is not smooth. Thank goodness the seller is making it right.

Update: Brought the club to a local retailer and they confirmed the club to be a fake a very good one at that. I received my refund via eBay and they had instructed me to destroy the club. I smremived the head and dropped the remains off at a local recycling center. I had filled out form via titleist and have included the sellers username. Hopefully others who have purchased from them will do the same. I wish it were easier to reach out to them to let them know. Thank you again for everyone's help.

As for my local retailer they are going to help me out and I'll end up purchasing from them this week.

To me the insert looks too recessed.
