I’m going to Vegas on Presidents’ Day weekend and am looking for a course to play on Monday. The plan is to play a round around 9 am and then head home to Los Angeles by car. I was thinking Primm valley but are there better options near the strip but still on the way back to LA? Also want to keep it under $100.

Under $100, not sure I can help you there. If you're willing to go up to $175 or so (at least that's what it was when I played there in 2012), try Bali Hai if you wanna stay close to the strip.

I also really liked TPC Las Vegas, but that'll run you over $200, and it's about a 30-35 minute ride from the strip.

Las Vegas National. Older course with a lot of history. Just off the strip in the middle of town. $99, $79 after 12:30. They have Golf Boards too.

Reflection Bay is on my "must play" list if I ever get back to Vegas. When I was there in 2012 it was closed down, but they've re-opened it. I remember playing it on one of the old Tiger Woods video games. Looked fantastic.

I found a good deal on TeeOff for TPC Las Vegas. Any thoughts on that course?

I played TCP Las Vegas last summer and really enjoyed the course. I would recommend it if you have a good deal.

I've played it three times. I liked it a lot. The second hole is a par 3, kind of a raised island green. Except it's not surrounded by water, it's surrounded by rock. Pretty cool. Fairways are generous, and the views of mountains off in the distance are sweet. Good practice facility as well.

Driving home to LA from LV on the Monday of a 3-day weekend is the worst. Unless you're on the road before 7am (at the absolute latest) or after 7 pm (maybe later) you're looking at a very painful drive home. Very, very painful after playing a round of golf.

Maybe sleep in, play a twilight round (which will open up more courses within your budget), eat dinner, then leave late. Or get up really early and drive most the way to LA before traffic builds, and play someplace like Oak Quarry nearish the 15 in Riverside.

I've played TPC Las Vegas several times and it's a great course. But not worth subjecting myself to a 6+ hour drive in stop-and-go traffic afterwards. I'm not trying to be a downer on your plan at all, but as someone who's done probably close to 100 weekends trips from LA to LV, I've learned some things. President's Day isn't nearly as bad as Memorial or Labor Day, but still won't be fun.

The course is pretty sweet, but bdawk is right about the planes. It's not far from the airport, and there are low flying planes taking off pretty constantly over you. It took me a few to get used to it, but didn't bother me. In fact, I thought it was kinda cool.

I love the TPC courses but I don't think they would be under $100. I would recommend Red Rock Arroyo, which a beautiful course and just off the highway, so really convenient! The Con - no driving range
