TM Tour Preferred irons (2007 - 2008) model

Hello all. I was hoping to receive from some guidance from you all.

I am currently gaming the 2008 TM Tour Preferred irons and am looking to upgrade. I learned to play with these irons and am currently shooting in the 95-85 range pretty consistently. I am a decent ball striker and rarely miss big with my irons. I would say that I am a pretty straight iron player and my misses are left.

Have any of you gamed these irons in the past? If so what did you move on to? I know that these irons are "players irons" for the most part but that has never intimidated me in any way. Like I stated above, these were my first set of irons and I learned how to play the game with them.

Having said all of that, I know I could probably benefit from GI irons but I hate looking at fat top lines and club heads that look like shovels. I would love to hear your thoughts and recommendations.

They are a player's CB in proportions but have a lot of GI elements to them. If you're striking them well, don't have big complaints, and they're in good shape I would just keep playing them. No need to make a change just for change' sake.

I echo this sentiment.....I've chased irons but keep these around....

Having said that if you have a hankering for new irons no harm in trying/demoing newer models. Who doesn't like buying new stuff? :)

Am I crazy or did Dustin Johnson not play those at the time?

One of my regular playing partners, 59 years old, 3 handicap played those for years. He ordered a new set of Ping S55's a couple of years ago. Played the Pings for about one season and is now hittting the TM's again. I've never hit them, set one up behind a ball the other day, good looking club at address.

If they're still working well, consider keeping them in play.

Having said that, do you think it will be worth it to get the lie/loft adjusted? These are off the rack and I've never been fitted.

They're still great irons. They're like modern 845s to me. Tom Lehman still uses them (well, a few of those clubs from that set). Me personally, I'd check their loft and lie. Those clubs aren't forged so I don't think the lofts will change that much yet any competent club maker can still bend them to your ideal lie.
