8YO now - Started putting with, at age 7, a Ping Karsten TR that was cut down from 35" to 27.5" finished club length. Headweight is 365g. We put a SuperStroke Flatso 1.0 with 50g countercore. We also have a Never Compromise Stubby putter with Winn Pistol Grip cut to the same length that we practice with often. When I redo (lengthen) the Ping putter, I'll probably take it to 29" or 29.5" finished length and put the Winn Pistol on it instead of the SS.

Never really any problems with either yet. Mostly, I check that the lie angle looks OK during his setup.

It's no fun when the rabbit's got the gun.

It funny you should ask that. I took my daughter for a lesson and had the instructor look at her putting. The first thing he noticed was the ball was rolling out much. He took the putter into the shop and checked the weight. He told me that the average putter was I think a D-2 swing weight and hers

was a C-2. The loss of weight came from

cutting it down. He added lead tape to the bottom to get the clubhead weight right. He also added loft to her putter because it didn’t have enough. Her ball instantly rolled better. He gave the analogy that it was like trying to knock down bowling pins with a 7lb ball. There wasn’t enough mass to get the job done. So I would check the loft and the weight of the putter once you cut it down. I always used the US Kids specs for the length.

My son has the blade style one, we left the original weights on it (I think they’re 15g each). Seems to work fine for him. What weights did you put in? Thanks

15g in the heel and 10g in the toe. Helps him close the face a little.

There's definitely something more important that I should be doing.

That's kind of where I'm going with it. The putter he's using has adjustable weights, and it makes sense that if you're shortening the club you need to add weight to bring the swing weight back. Just wondering if people are noticing the differences when doing this. Glad to hear you are, as I'm leaning towards picking up some weights and making the change.

My son has a Odyssey Rossie Metal X cut to 27.5 or 28 with a super stroke ultra slim 1.0 on it. He used to use a Taylormade Rosa Daytona Tour. He likes the mallet putter better and putts much better with it. I might add a tip wright to get the weight up a bit.
