Found 10+MPH and 30 yards off the tee (really). Before I go nuts practicing, what do you see?

Recommended Posts

I plan on going for a real video lesson, but don't see any point yet as I am literally in hour one of finding out I am capable of this and it's completely unrefined. My push draw is now a push and go anywhere. But rolling up on 300 is never something I thought I could do, and I'll be damned if I don't try to roll with it. Very excited right now!

I've always been a "stop when club is vertical-ish" kind of guy, and the "move" if you want to call it that is just throwing the club behind my head at the top. Feels ridiculously long at the top and "wrist snappy" at impact... but f****** BOMBS. Few 280+ carries when previously I was lucky to roll out to 270. This video probably sucks since I just wanted to see what it looked like at the top, and it didn't take long for me to remember I don't even know what I'm looking at. But here it is:

I've always had that crazy strong grip and club at the top, but does anything else jump out to ya'll as awful before I try to learn how to repeat this and then get a real lesson to fine tune?

Thanks for looking @gentles. I knew it was shite but it's hard for me to get those videos in my garage. Camera is up against the wall right there and will have same issue with face on. Won't fit myself in the frame. I'd have to go outside or get a wide angle cam which I can't do right now.
I'll save the deep dive for the real lesson when I am actually comfortable doing this. For now I just want to know if anyone sees a "OH NO, HALT" level flaw with what I am doing at the top before I practice repeating it. For reference here is a "normal" swing from a stream last week if that helps highlight what I am changing. Same crappy angle so sorry about that, not exactly meant for swing analysis!

Little jumpy probably. Definitely not much control post-impact right now. I don't know if it's "bad" but the finish looks ugly to my eye compared to the smooth posing of the pros.

I read some of the popular threads on this page recently and I think having the club behind me is making me do the "throw" thing in that big thread? It feels so different and powerful! Wish I could measure clubhead speed but I don't have a HMT.. ballspeed 10+ (close to 20 sometimes) blows my mind though.

Will definitely update here with better angles when I take the videos for the lesson.

Just find something to prop your phone at the right height. You don’t need a tripod or anything. I’ve found ways at the local indoor sim (before the lockdown) by using a stand up bar menu on top of a lounge couch for my phone to be at the right position.

In all seriousness, without that, it’s somewhat useless for feedback purposes. But that said, I have no idea how you even make contact with the right hand underneath the club like that. Not saying it’s wrong per se, but you’ll need to do some unique stuff to keep a repeatable motion with that grip.

Also, the Mets suck! ??

Also, the Mets suck! ??Ban this man!

Played a round today on the sim tour, some fictional course in the Hollywood mountains with wind at the back and a big elevation drop off the first tee. Carried 304 from the locale (276 on GC2) and rolled out to 330. Insanity for me. Didn't stream it because I was self conscious I was swinging like a buffoon... but here's the shot (nobody cares but enjoy the absurdity of that first tee haha)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wUxhZukLYGEMore importantly kept it on the course for all but one hole (pulled one maybe 50 yards left, oops). Honestly don't think there is anything anyone could say anymore, this is my life now. Very excited to try to harness this power. Real round this weekend, and we'll have to see how many of the "off the fairway" balls result in lost/drops that don't exist on the sim.

I'll tell you what though... I'll definitely look at all those "gain 30 yard" clickbait videos differently from now on. It can happen!
