PING DALEHEAD

I just picked up one also. It turned out to be in really good shape, now I can't decide if I want to use it or not, although I'm really not a very good collector. I generally start off with good intentions but then I end up wanting to play with my colletion :D

As for the Newport comparison. Head shape is more similar to the original gun blue/oil can newport than any. A bit more rounded and flowing maybe. To me that's where the similarities end though. The Anser has an entirely different feel than the carbon steel Newport IMO and will also be lighter in weight. If you are used to putting with a Cameron the Anser will most likely take a little getting used to.

Thanks for the reply and feedback, I too intend on playing with mine cannot stand not playing what I have! Great looking putters and the 9 1/2 step gives it great feel!

There is a pic of one on ebay for 150.00, it says anser on it. I think i have that, actually maybe 2. Ones my grandfathers he gave it to me before he died, the other one i found in my ex-girlfriends parents garage. How can you tell if its a Dalehead?

The Dalehead is basically the same putter that Ping originally made when they were in Scottsdale. When they moved to Phoenix the early models continued with the same design but now had Phoenix and 85029 in the cavity instead of Scottsdale.

The picture of the Anser by drewspin is a Dalehead Anser. Note the rounded slopes on the heel/toe weights. Non-Scottsdale/Dalehead Ansers have their slopes end in a sharp angle (near 90 degrees), not sloped as we see here. This is a flatsole version. There is also a rocker sole version. A google search of ping anser dalehead and viewing images will show both versions.

Other than the shape the basic thing that makes these so desireable is the original formulation of the maganese bronze which they were made out of. Due to EPA and other regulations over the years the formulation has changed and impacted the feel significantly. I've got several models that are from that era as well as the modern update. Anser and MyEcho are the prime ones. Absolutely no comparison (even blindfolded--of course you don't make any putts) in the feel between the two. You've got one of the older models if your shaft band is black with red and silver writing (heel toe etc.)
