Rory is playing a Titleist 910D2 (8.5°) with a Fujikura Rombax 7V05 shaft.

I've hit it several times and I liked it but the feel wasn't the best but still it performed great. A friend of mine has it in his 909D2 and he bombs it.. Averaging 285 yards which is unreal for a 16 year old... at least that is what I think... he outdrives me with 15 yards almost every time haha.

It is weird since that is a great hi bend shaft. Even tho I am playing the heavy RIP, I still have a 7z08 built up in driver length. I really like it in my woods. I think Poulter played the 6x07 awhile back. The Z series is really low torque and the tour seems to gravitating towards low launch, low spin, but hi torque.

, the Speeder 757 (one of the best shafts ever, imho).

I have to agree.

Yep. Had a real deal original 757(black shaft with red dial) in my R7 Quad. Good dispersion, low launch and spin. No wonder why Freddie had it in his bag for such a long time. Great classic Fuji shaft. Maybe their best ever.

Agreed: 757 still stands up to all the current shafts and beats out most. bb.gif

William, the "V" series Rombax shafts, from what I believe/recall, is not available in the U.S.
Rory does play this shaft, but the Rombax is nowhere near as prolific as say, the Speeder 757 (one of the best shafts ever, imho).
It can be special ordered and after Rory won the US Open with it they released a bunch to dealers. Great shaft just not as great as some other choices. when it was released it was my favorite . Whats up with the Fit On shafts ? Rory plays a Fit on or something like that and actually there are tons of the Fit on shafts in tour bags. I couldnt even tell you one thing about them . Anyone know what Fit on is worth trying ?

Fuji held the top spot for shaft count on the PGA Tour for 7 or 8 consecutive years starting in 2001. No doubt the models being used are not all part of the Rombax line but it's no stretch to say that Rombax shafts contributed a significant amount to those total driver, FW, hybrid counts.

I have always wondered the same thing. Decent points made here:

The Rombax Z (North American version not JDM) is a tremendously underrated shaft. In my experiences, the Z-series is tighter, lower launching and lower spinning than almost everything else out there over the last few years... maybe a touch less smooth than some (Diamana WB) but not by much. I've had 6Z08, 7Z08, 8Z08 in various drivers and FWs and in retail and tour flexes and they just flat out perform exactly as described. Tipping is important as they can play a little soft untipped but taking a 1/2-1" off tightens them up just right. Always thought it was odd that we haven't seen more Zs on tour.

I gamed an R7 Superquad TP with a Rombax 7W06 for a good couple of years before putting the 909D2/White Board 73 combo in play. The W was a great shaft, but just launched a touch too high for my liking. I think I went with the Diamana in the 909 just to try something different even though the fitter's recommendations were for the White Board or the 7Z08. Prior to the Rombax W, I had gamed the stock Rombax TP 75 in the Superquad, a Vista Tour 60 in a 983K, a Speeder 757 in a 975J-VS (waaayyyyy too much shaft for me at the time), and a Vista Pro 80 in a 980F. Fujikura makes superb, top quality shafts...to be honest the Vista Tour is one of my all time favorites.

drpino, your last line pretty much sums up my thoughts.
"why no tour love?" for the "Z" series, which I think is a totally bada** line of shafts.

I have a 7Z08 with an old Cobra adapter (two way) and use it in my L5V and S9-1F heads.
By all accounts, it should be much too stiff and too low launching for my swing speed, but it works extremely well for me. Mid launch, the carry is only a little shorter than with a Bluebaord or a Proforce V2, but it has an extraordinary amount of roll, so it is longer than those two. Also, no sidespin to speak of, so I am hitting it dead straight all the time. I got it in a bankruptcy sale for EUR 79,- and thought that if it did not suit me, I could always sell it. But I was pleasantly surprised and kept it.

I see a gap. There definitely is a gap.

I've played the 7v05 and 6z08. Both great!

The 7v05 was a butchered pull but my club-maker has another with my name on it. Even f'd up and over-tipped I could feel it kicking hard so I'm probably going to give it another go. I don't think the 6z08 kicks as hard but it sure fires rockets.
