Slazenger Black Label golf balls

Guy @ Dick's said they are made by Bridgestone
I was in Dick's Sporting goods and ran across these golf balls. The box stated the balls were seamless with 3 piece construction. I asked the sales person and he stated the balls were made by Bridgestone for Dicks. Box also said "made in japan". Can anyone out there verify...thanks.

Those balls were made by Dunlop in Japan. They are about 5 years old as they came out around the same time as the Maxfli A10.

Sorry, but the guy at the store is probably getting his equipment confused.

After reading your post I did some searching and could not find anything stating Dunlop ever made a seamless ball. The box itself said the ball had a seamless cover. Maybe Slazenger rehashed an old name but I believe this is a new ball.

Dicks bought the rights for Slazenger Golf, they now own it. They are heavily marketing Slazenger balls and clothing. For 2007 there will be 5 new slazenger balls, RD Tour- 3 piece surlyn cover, RD Speed- 2 piece soft, two new Raw Distance 24 packs, and now for the GREAT NEWS-- that Slazenger BLACK LABEL ball is the BEST PREMIUM 3 PEICE URATHANE BALL you can buy for $30. It is made by Bridgstone for Slazenger. It may very well be one of the best balls period. We tested this ball last summer with a group, we used unlabeled balls, just numbers. Pro v1, B330, TM Black, & the Slazenger. After 4 rounds of golf the Slazenger was voted #2 most preferred ball. Same performance, 10-15 bucks less per dozen. TRY IT.

Hmm, that might explain some stuff. I have an older Slazenger shirt which fits me great (size Medium). All their newer stuff I have to wear a size SMALL. They had some cool looking shirts this Christmas (got one as a gift), but none in my size. Twisted given that at 5'10" & 160lbs I'm not exactly tiny!!

  • 1 year later...

i was in Dick's this weekend and the sales guy told me as well that this ball was made by Bridgestone for Dicks and was a 3 piece-er....

he said it was the best ball he had played, and NO ONE buys them. i thought it was all bunk seeing a $30 Slazenger....thinking, i wouldnt play a Slazenger....

anyway, anyone played this? the sales guys said the national sales mgr for the golf side had been in and told him they were made by Bridgestone too.....

FWIW, (good or bad) the Slazenger apparel, equipment and accessories have a HUGE margin thus the reason it's getting pushed heavily.

yeah, i think that is obvious with the pricing of their clothing....the "dry-fit" -esque stuff is $50 which is insane considering it isnt a premium brand

Yep.. along with the Walter Hagen and Maxfli products as well..

Dicks owns all of it.. so, that is the products they push.

Want to go into Dick Sporting goods to purchase some Callaway's or Nike.. not if they can help it..

They'll steer you toward a $199 set of Walter Hagens!

I saw the Slazenger shirts on the rack at Dick's and they looked cool, until I saw the hefty price tag. Rather go Under Armour, Adidas, Norman or Nike if I am dropping that many duckies.

That's not entirely true. Sure, they do push their own stuff (WH, MXfly, and now - Slaz), but I get coupons all the time and promotional materials from Dicks for my scorecard that feature Callaway at least a couple times a year. Got a free two-ball pack of the HX-Hot Bite using one of the coupons. Same for Nike.

I think they'll happily sell you whatever you want to buy. Now if they only had Ping ...

+1 for hating Slazenger Raw commercials.

And for some reason the blood dripping on the ball at the end is just kinda...disturbing...

Even IF their premium ball is a great ball, no one plays it because they don't try to market it from what I've seen. All they'd have to do is claim to have a top tier ball and I'm sure some folks here would try them out and review them.

Hmmmmm, made by Bridgestone huh? I may have to give these a shot and put 'em against the TM Red LDP's. If the ball performs I'm not going to let a lousy commercial or the fact that it's a Dick's brand prevent me from buying them. I will say, however, that with a name like RAW I would've had some hot chick in skimpy clothing pushing them in the commercials.

Well, now they have the hot chick but not the skimpy clothes...the commercials still suck but the chick is hot.

Well... Since many Bridgestone balls like the e5+ and e6+ are less than 30 dollars, I'd rather play one of those rather than a Slazenger ball made Bridgestone. Slazenger must be pretty desperate if they are having other companies make balls for them.

Why? Lots of top balls are designed and sold by one company and manufactured by another. Its a pretty common practice.

No doubt about it, this is a great ball. At 30 a box, I'm not sure I'd call it a sleeper, but I do think it is competitive. It is as soft as a ProV1, harder than a Nike Platinum, and softer than an Ignite. It feels great off of irons, and will stop nicely on the green.

Since I'm not an expert, I can not offer a more detailed review, but I think this is a good ball and worth the money.

Say what you want to about the ads, they are horrible, but this ball is great.
