Atlanta Trip

Recommended Posts

I have a buddy getting married in a few weeks and we are going to Atlanta to meet up and play some golf. Looking for some solid course that are nice, reasonable, and fun.

We are going to be west of Atlanta by about 15-20mins.

Looking to play 2 rounds per day perferably at different courses. Right now we are thinking about

Stone Mountain, The Frog, Cobblestone, and either Eagle watch or Wolf Creek.

Any suggestions or ideas? Looking to spend around $50 a round.

Played Eagle Watch today actually. The course is in great shape and the greens are running pure, but the greens-keeper needs to get laid. All of the pins were in sucker locations.

If you're staying West of Atlanta (outside perimeter) and visiting on weekend, then I would stay West of Atlanta as I-20 and I-285 (on west/northwest side of town) are under construction (2-3 of 4 lanes closed) every weekend except holidays

Depending on where you are it's likely you'd drive thru this mess to play Cobblestone

Frog is good choice, Oak Mountain which is further west on I-20 (towards Alabama) is great choice too

Eagle watch. I'm not sure if it's private or not, I saw it on the top 10 best public course in Ga.

I'm actually from Cobb county so I know a lot of the back roads, so hopefully traffic won't be to big of an issue, but hey you never know.

So it looks like The frog and cobblestone are good choices. Looking for a few suggestions, the groom actually just played oak mountain today and wanted to play somewhere new.

Eagle Watch was public a long time ago, went private, got into financial trouble, got bought by Canongate, which got bought by Club Corp. West of Atlanta, I would recommend The Frog and Wolf Creek. You are not going to find courses near each other out that way if you want to get 36 in at two different courses.

You can get around on the courses in good time. Wolf Creek does get packed but it's location has a lot to do with that. I've done 36 in day with The Frog and Wolf Creek before. It's definitely an easy thing to do because of the distance between them. I haven't played Creekside in years but I would think it would be an even better combo to play with The Frog due to distance from The Frog and it's definitely not as crowded.

Oh yea, rarely a problem here.

I'm north of the perimeter so I can't help you, but courses here WERE in great shape but we haven't had a whole lot of rain lately so you might see some firm greens.

If you are considering Woodmont, you might want to also look at Bridgemill Athletic Club. I believe they are about 15miles from each other.

Bridgemill is private. Woodmont, Bradshaw Farms and Echelon are close to each other but are a long ride from the west side of town. Each is a great track and in good condition right now. You could easily get in 36 at 2 of the 3 courses. Bradshaw is 27 holes of champions Bermuda greens, others are bent. Echelon does not have a clubhouse so bring your own adult beverages.

Eagle Watch and Bentwater are close to each other but are part of old Cannongate, now Club Corp. The Frog is always a great choice. I have played all these courses and my favorite is Echelon.

Bentwater is private I believe. I did not know Bridgemill was private now, there website has a button for booking tee times.

A. The Frog just Aerated their greens
B. Bridgemill is NOT Private
C. Stone Mountain is on the other side of the world from the Frog and Wolf Creek(plus always in horrible shape)

If you are on the West side of town I would stick with......
Wolf Creek(In Great Shape, not cheap, but not horrible. I think it is around $60.00)
Cobblestone is a good ways from Wolf Creek(45 minutes) - I would play Bridgemill before Cobblestone, but Bridgemill is farther away.

If drive is not an issue go down and play Eagles Brooke and Crystal Lake. Both are in great shape(as of 9 days ago) close together, good layouts and close together. Both are roughly 45 minutes from Wolf Creek.

Eagles Brooke and Crystal Lakes are the 2 best public options on the south side of Atlanta, hands down. Wolf Creek and Frog are always solid choices. Depending on how far west you are, the drive may be close to an hour.

Still one of my favorite public layouts in all of Atlanta is Cherokee Run, which is in excellent condition currently.

Avoid Stone Mountain like the plague. Their conditions (both courses) are the worst they have been in over 5 years.

For the price Eagle's Brooke and Crystal Lake might be two of the best public options anywhere in Atlanta. Pace of play is always good and conditions are always good (sometimes spotty in the middle of the summer) and their pricing is normally lower than anything West, East or North. Now if you live way north it is a bit of a haul to get to it.

I'm playing Eagles Brooke Saturday.

I would do echelon and the mannor. They are right next to each other, but it would take a long time to get there from your starting point.

Tsr2 8 or Tsi3 9 with Whiteboard 73 stiff Rombax 7z08
Titleist 910f 15 diamana whiteboard 83 stiff

titleist 818h2 with atmos stiff
titleist 710 mb 4-pw or Mizuno 919 Tour 4-pw or....
Vokey 52,56
Lajosi dd201 about 20 other putters

The Manor has gone back to totally private and does not allow outside play.
