People return bricks in iPhone boxes that are shrink wrapped. Employees put them back on the shelf. New customer buys the brick. Opens it. Is appalled! Returns the brick .

Have to explain up and down what happened. Then the cops get involved.

All in all it just makes the cost of doing business go higher because of greedy people.

Perhaps all stores who take returns should have a binder of stock photos. When fakes are spotted. They get added to the binder.

Have a return process. Anything over $150 has to have manager approval.

And perhaps they need to do like with iPhones and other phones where the serial numbers are cataloged and verified with the return.

I saw a really bad set of 712 AP2s at a local used sports store once. Having worked for a used golf store we were all pretty well trained on spotting fakes. I brought it up to their “golf” guy and he just scoffed at me about it. Saw them back on the rack for the next few weeks until someone bought them. Oh well.

I wonder how a fake affects your golf game. I’d love to see some undercover YouTube videos of this.

These are fake clubs.... here we go!

Lack of quality in the build, hot and cold spots in the metal, probably terrible feeling since they claim forged but most likely aren’t. Inconsistent lofts and lies.

I'd guess that they are, indeed, fake.

Anecdotal: I purchased a Nike SQ Dymo from Dick's in ~2009(?) when they were new-ish, and the thing always sounded extremely bad. On a launch monitor, the numbers were fine and I hit it really well, but it had the most obnoxious claaaaannkkk at impact. I played with a friend who bought one from TGW, and his sounded much different than mine, and even the heads looked different -- the paint job on mine looked terrible. I've never purchased any golf gear from Dick's since.

I worked at DSG and I'm confident in saying they don't buy fakes to sell. When I worked there and even up till now our DSG has never sold used clubs brought in from customers. They would sell their older demo woods after a new model was released though, but never clubs from a trade in. Clubs brought from a trade were always sent away. I believe they were to sites like 3ball golf etc., or were sent a place from refurbishing. But again I never saw used club sold as used at "our DSG".

My local DSG just started selling used trade-ins. Saw a Scotty Bullsye Flange for $99 that I almost pulled the trigger on. They had a handful of putters, a set of irons, and a few woods/drivers in a couple of staff bags. Decent prices on some items.

Granted our DSG is probably the sorriest DSG golf department in all of the DSG stores. Honestly they only get left overs from the DSG stores. They like 4-5 G400 clubs on the rack (no G400MAx), no Titleist, Srixon, etc. They Have maybe 3-4 TM M4/M3 (no 440). And couple Rogues (no SZ).

Honestly I should take some pics, it's awful. Yet its the biggest golf shop for 100 miles or more lol. We have a small mom and pops shop but it's basically to just place orders with nothing to demo.

I'm surprised that nobody commented on yet another thing about those irons - they're 716's and not 718's. Bad enough that they put fakes out on the floor to sell (and left them there after being made aware), but they're not even the current version of AP2. Really hoping no one is dumb enough to buy those.

I was under the assumption that they were traded in and were being sold as a "used set" so the being the older 716 version would make sense since they were either trade in for credit on a new set or sold to DSG for cash/credit. So maybe not that surprising...

I agree I hope no one is "dumb enough to buy them" but unfortunately we, the Golfwrx community make up a just a small fraction of the golfing population. Still, even my buddy who play up to 5x's a week, and actually owns 716 AP2 irons (but is not an equipment guy at all really), wouldn't know that these are fake by looking at them. Hell I'd even bet big money if my buddy didn't have his 716's in hand to use as a comparison up close he'd never even know. Unfortunately I think 99% of golfers wouldn't know, and that's why I believe even the DSG guy who accepted these in on trade didn't notice they were fake.

Check out the asking price in the pic. They're being sold as new, and 2x above what new 716s go for now.

Never noticed the sign in the pic. I can't read the listing, except Titleist and $1149. It's strange even on DSG site it $1139 for 718 AP2.
