I am not a die hard crazy but about golf like most folks on here. I used to go with the best of them, but that has slowed down immensely as well. I like to play and I enjoy playing well, but a bad round doesn’t mean anything to me anymore other than there is always tomorrow. I play once a week generally and that’s seems to be more than enough. I totally understand what you are saying OP, but a good break away from the game always does me some good. Maybe take the rest of the year off and see how you feel in the spring

Golf is what kept me sane during a very messy divorce. I have other hobbies too and try not to get too consumed by any one hobby. I practice once a week and play one day on the weekends. I have found a perfect balance between golf, other hobbies, family and work!!

Passed the Jarrod Lyle thread and then stumbled into this one. All of your answers are clear as day.

Op. I feel your pain. I understand the reference you made. It is one big lucy pulling the football out. Again.

 

And I keep teeing it up and trying again. But my whole life has been the same. So I'm used to it. Having some sort of inner push that knows you can do near anything. Yet somehow not being able to break that glass ceiling. Then maybe you break it only to find another 3 ft up. Infuriating!

 

Yet I push on. Wondering somehow , why ? For what ?

 

But that Jarrod Lyle story lit a bit of a fire under me last week. Which I shared with a pal here.

 

Been pretty public with my putter woes . Well I stumbled into an iron setup that I Swanee is like adding 100 horsepower to a 600 horse Porsche. So the strongest part of my game has jumped up another notch in the last month. And putter isn't keeping up.

 

Back to last week. I read al there was to read on Lyle. And it just hit me. " my problem isn't s*** ". And I decided then and there to break my glass ceilings and not feel sorry for myself. And I'm going to if I have to putt Side saddle. ( god don't hold me to that , please ).

 

So chin up. Either decide ( yes decide ) to love it again. Or stop playing. Butdont show up and half a** it. Absolutely no point in that. I find that if we are honest with ourselves. 99% of the time our mood and outlook is a choice. A theory I've yet to convince my wife of. Lol. But I stand by it. If I choose to not let something ruin my day I can ignore it and move on if I focus my attention on something positive and worthwhile.

 

Try that. Find something to focus on improving. Something small. And plot a proper plan to do so. Otherwise. Find a new hobby.

 

Great post .. in an ironic twist I added 55hp to my 385hp Targa 4s. She's pretty peppy now in Sport Mode. 440hp is a lot of pull in a small 911, makes me even more appreciative of the guy at Nurburgring in a 1100hp Porsche breaking a very old record. great youtube video

Coming out of my own funk I suggest:

 

- different playing partners

- new sticks of some sort

- new tees

- new courses

- a getaway to a nice resort with your significant other

- less investment mentally in your score at the end of the day

- focus more on the outside time in the nice weather with your buddies

The thrill for me is:

 

Seeing a drive go down the center of the fairway.

Hitting an iron exactly like I visualized it.

Backing a wedge up.

Actually making a putt.

Beating my friends and scoring well.

 

Has nothing to do with clubs.

This happened to me once. I put the clubs away for a while and eventually caught the bug again.
