Older M1 430 vs the M1 440

Any more comparison between these too clubs? I'm thinking about picking up a 440 head cheap now with the m3 launch.

I have both for quite a while, and in regard of forgiveness, it is much depending on the shaft I use in conjunction with the weight settings.

For me, they are not less forgiving, than the M1 460 2016, maybe because of the deeper face, and where my miss hits are.

The sound and feel of the 440 is not that much depending on the weight settings, like the 430,

and therefore mostly a touch more muted.

However, the 430 is a real beast in this setting:

In regard of performance, they both are too similar for me, to prefer one over the other, depending on the weight settings and the shaft.

However, theoretically, you can setup the 440 with both weights in the rear, or in the front, which should give him the edge over the 430, because the combined moveable weight is slightly higher.

I like both, so, it is up to you, to test them side by side, and to decide which feels, sounds, and looks best for you.

I played the sldr 430 for a long time. I tried to replace it with each and every driver release against all manufacturers I could get my hands on. Each year nothing beat it. Several were close or tied it, but nothing exceeded it. So why spend $300-$500 right? I finally grabbed a M2 late in 2016 on the cheap. I was ok with it but all it did was go avg distance and pretty straight. It felt safe but didn’t have that extra gear the sldr had when needed. Gave the M2 to my dad and scooped a m1 430. It was a little better than the M2 on length, but still not equal to the sldr and less accurate than the M2. I was ready to move back to a sldr when I found a deal on a used 440. It had the length of the Sldr and the stability of the M2. I’ll be testing the M3 440 this year but I have little confidence that it will take out the M1.

Great response, this is what I was looking for! Thanks for the feedback and unfortunately just will be confirming my search for a 440 M1 head.

Haven't hit the 440 yet, but if it's better than the 430, then it's the best driver head ever made, because that's pretty much how I feel about the 430.

I love the 2016 430 and got great spin numbers with it. Now being honest, the 440 is a little better overall, but not enough to dump the 430 if it's working really well for you.

Would you say it's better overall in comparison to your '16 M2?

Not really. The 440 spins LOT less to loft than M2 does. I'd say the 440 will be as forgiving as the 2016 M1 460, spin about the same as the 2016 M1 430, and sound more like 2016 M2. It also looks a shade larger at address than 2016 M1 430. It's just a perfect combination of all of the 16 model's best attributes.

Have you found the 440 to be more draw biased than the 430? I just hit my newly acquired 440 yesterday and was drawing it way more than i ever drew my 430. I like to hit a nice cut and it seemed to be turning over quite easily. Have weights in furthest back and furthest toe.

And to be clear, first impressions were great. Ball speeds were up and mishits still carried great. Granted, my SS is 125-130, i don't have any trouble carrying low strikes out there. So far, I like the 440 better than the 430. Feels slightly lighter too?? Maybe that's just me.

I fell in love with the epic sub zero and thought my driver search was done. I bought an m1 440 head just to mess around with and kinda forgot about it during the sub zero love affair. Someone was playing the m1 and let me hit it with that stupid a** fuji black and red pos and, of course, because everything was good with the world, i crushed it. I was like, i need to get one of these...then i thought, am i such a ho that i forgot i already had one.. and...by god, i have 2 of that pos shaft sitting under my bed cuz i hated it so much with the m2 2016...regardless, epic sz is out of bag and if there is a better club out there than the m1 440....dont care..im happy

Im think it is incredibly forgiving for what it is..i have the weight forward and two clicks toward draw.

Amen

Ps i definetely 100 percent find this to be more "at the draw".
