St. Louis, MO Golf

Gateway National is always a recommendation. If you’re staying close to downtown or in downtown. It definitely the closest and one I would recommend regardless. If distance and driving doesn’t matter, my personal favorites in the greater Saint Louis area would be Annbriar Golf Course, Aberdeen Golf Club Pevely Farms Golf Club, Spencer T Olin and Landings at the Spirit Golf Club.

Aberdeen is a great links style course, no trees, extremely walkable

Spencer T Olin is great, Arnold Palmer design. One of my favorites

Annbriar is great as well.

Aberdeen and Spencer have basically no restrictions anymore. Ranges are open, can share carts with others if you wish. Haven't been to Annbriar yet this year but that's a very special course as well.

Gateway is the best course in the area. It is in Illinois so Illinois rules currently for Covid. I now live in Chicago where were have a ton of public golf and I think Gateway should be in the top 10 of Illinois. If she is an animal person the zoo is a great option, one of the best in the country. Eat on the hill (little italy basically) some great Italian food, gelato, really nice new piazza you can check out. Near the brewery is Blues City Deli, I think the best lunch spot in St Louis. Missouri Bluffs is the most eye popping course in the area probably, but a little far out, probably 40 min from the city. I'd be happy to answer any other questions you have!

Just entered the U.S. Amateur Four-Ball qualifier at Crown Pointe Golf Club in Farmington, MO around the end of September.  Would love to hear if anyone has any feedback on the track!  My playing partner and I are looking to play a money game the Saturday leading up to our practice round ideally located between STL and Farmington..  Any insight on what spots are in great shape would be greatly appreciated.  Will look at both public and private recs (maybe our Head Pro can make some calls for us ?

Thanks in Advance!

I am a member of Crown Pointe, so can answer any question you have about the course.  Fairways are zoysia and are perfect all summer.  Rough is blue grass/rye grass and can be unmanagable if not in a mowed section.  Greens are big with (mostly) mild breaks, but on the slower side (probably 8ish on stimp).  Bunkers are bad....too much sand in most.  All in all, it is a pretty solid course in usually in good-above average shape.

Crown pointe is a solid public course and I like being a member there.   As far as the course goes, I wish the greens would run a little faster.  I would guess they keep them about 8 on the stimpmeter.  But the fairways are as good as anyones...they are zoysia and perfect.  The rough can get out of control in the springtime, but usually thins out in the summer heat.  If I had one wish for the course, it would be that there be a little more strategy needed to play well.  Due to its lack of trees, it is a bombers golf course.
