Cleaning Shoes....and Boost

Recommended Posts

I seem to have picked up a slight OCD condition in the past 18 months.

Problem is I can't stand playing golf when my shoes are dirty........ And getting them muddy mid round pisses me right off now too. Hahahaha.

Anyways, I have been using Jason Mark Sneaker cleaning products during that time and I'm super happy with the way it works and looks after the shoes (DNA's, Hyperflex and now Tour Boost 360) only problem i'm finding now with the Tour 360's is getting the BOOST clean.

It stains very easy and is hard to dig muddy marks out of the cracks. Any ideas on a better solution??

I have this kit and i have added a stiffer brush for the soles but it doesnt get it all out.

Here is a before and after example:

These are over 12 months old now and had almost weekly rounds, so im happy with the product overall.

I typically just wipe them off with a soft cloth. If they have mud on them if needed I use a brush to loosen the dried mud if not I used warm water and a soft cloth wipe them down then use a dry cloth to dry them off and put shoe trees in them. The magic eraser works great keeping the boost sole clean. I have both FJ and PGA Superstore polishes if they need it and both brands work great. I have not needed it on the Boost 360 yet, but I think the most important thing to keep golf shoes or any shoe looking new is a good shoe tree. I have Icons that are over 5 years old that still look new and they have over a hundred rounds on them. I have 8 pair of golf shoes in rotation 4 pair of FJ and 4 of Adidas. Both are great shoes, but the Adidas Boost 360 take the most effort to keep clean. You have done a wonderful job keeping yours looking as good as they do. I will definitely look into Jason Mark product if the Magic eraser at some point fails to keep them looking new. Do you have a link to the product or directions on a place to shop for it?

Oh so you use a Magic eraser on the Boost? I might have to try that, I actually dont even know what it is....LOL.

I get my supplies from a friend street wear store, he kind of laughed at me when i wanted the stuff, but once i explained im paying big $$ for shoes (that are now very fashion based like street wear) why shouldnt i look after them.

This is a basic starter kit on ebay:

http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Jason-Markk-4-oz-Premium-Essential-Kit-Shoe-Cleaner-Brush-and-Solution-NEW-/122260587693?hash=item1c774c84ad:g:524AAOSwHQ9WXHvp

Look up Jason markk tutorials on youtube to watch how they recommend using the cleaner. I just use a lot more hot water cause the shoes are water proof generally.

You can also get a softer brush, bigger solution bottle and even a repellent spray (which i should have used) to protect dirt build up.

I've converted another 5 or 6 mates onto this cause it works well.

Magic Eraser is the best thing in the world to clean white shoes or the foam midsole that I have ever seen. It's downright amazing...

They are a little pricey, especially considering they really work like an eraser (including falling apart like a pencil eraser does as it is used)

Amazon has some copycat versions from "moo moo" (?) that are the same thing as the heavy duty magic erasers but at a gazillionth of the price...

All the magic eraser is, is a special foam. and it wasn't invented by mr clean, they just found a way to market it. the stuff really does work crazy good

As a sneakerhead, I've tried just about everything to clean shoes, and keep them clean. The best Method I've found is as follows.

1.)Use Crep protect to help from getting stains. ( I use it before my first time wearing them, then re-apply it after each time I clean my shoes, which is about every 2 or 3 rounds)

2.) Clean using a cleaner such as Angelus' cleaner or Jason Markk with hot water, then clean and dry them off.

3) Repeat the process with OxyClean gel, however I let the Oxyclean sit for 20-30 mins depending on how dirty/stained they are.

4.) Rinse the shoes off well, then let them sit in the sun to dry. ( I try not to let the inside of the shoes get wet)

5.) Add more Crep Protect.

This has been what I've found to be the most effective. I can post pics later of before/after. I also need to clean some shoes since I am going to customize a few this week. I will try to post before/after pics of using this method to clean them.

On a side note, I throw the shoe laces in an old cup with hot water and oxyclean.

So i tried the Magic Eraser, and i dont think it did much for me at all.

Before:

After:

It seems like the Boost is stained or just in a little too deep to get out.

Any suggestions?

try the Oxyclean gel and let it sit for an hour or so. However, I would try it on a small part of the boost incase it has a bad effect on it. I've only had Oxyclean mess up a pair of shoes once, and it was the type of material. I've used it maybe 30-40 pair of shoes and it's only done it on that one pair.

What do you do with flyknit?

I used refreshed shoe cleaner for my shoes. Might have to try Crep. Don't wear any shoe other than golf ones enough form them to really get dirty. :)

^^ on Flyknit I Would also let them sit with Oxyclean on them a bit. The only thing close to a flynit that I've had to clean a lot is my Roshe Runs since they are the shoes I wear casually the most. And I just use oxyclean and let them sit in the sun, and they always come out looking new. I would assume the same result with the flynit material. This is what I use.

Thanks for that! I will try some of that on the Midsole.

Talking about mods, i did see a guy paint the Boost on his sneakers black, it worked well on an all black shoe, so im slightly tempted to do it on the black pair but not sure if i will ruin the look of them.

If you do that... boot black would probably work the best i would think... it might soak down into the boost material and actually stay black instead of flaking off. but I don't know what boost is actually made out off, so some materials are finicky

  • 4 weeks later...

What about a general polish on the Adidas golf shoes? My Adidas Boost have lost their new shoe 'shine'. I was wondering if I should put a special polish on them or if regular, neutral polish would work. Obviously I've never tried it so I am trying to look into it.

I just use a white shoe cream polish on my Adidas. Wipe them clean with a damp cloth apply the polish with a soft cloth or applicator, let dry for a few minutes and buff with a horse hair brush or soft cloth. You can buy the FJ brand cream at almost any golf shop that sells FJ shoes or The PGA Super Store has a house brand that works very well. My son just uses a Kiwi brand white cream polish that comes in a bottle with a sponge applicator on the end and he says it does a great job using the same process as above.

Hey guys,

I have the Tour 360 knit since 3 month and I can't tell you why but they are getting dirty on the throatline. I didn't figure out how this is happening and I'm not talking about muddy conditions. I put all my adidas and Nike knit shoes in the washing machine but am a little worrying about putting them in the washer. Has anyone ever tried this?

Greetings

Sebastian

Shouldn't be an issue, but i'd put the shoes in a laundry bag, and on cold water.

Whatever you decide to clean Boost shoes with, there's one way to take them to the next level. Get yourself a white Sharpie Oil-Based Paint Pen in medium point. It's so easy to apply to the paint to your Boost foam and looks amazing when dry. You can get the tip of the paint pen in all of the little crevices in the foam - they come out looking better than new. Again this is a PAINT pen, not a Sharpie marker. You can get these on Amazon or at any craft store like Michaels. Places like Staples, Office Depot, Lowe's, and Home Depot have them too. They cost about $5 or $6 for a double pack. You will not be disappointed.
