Masters Par 3 contest

Recommended Posts

Well I was lucky enough to win tickets to the Masters this year for the Wednesday par 3 and was looking for some guidance on how to best enjoy the event. Is the a better spot to sit than others or is moving around the way to go?? Thanks for the help boys.

the place will be absolutely packed... many people get their places hrs in advance. expect to wait a lot, as there is no set interval b/w groups. otoh, the big course will be relatively empty

My plan is to get there early and set my chairs up somewhere on the course and wander around for a bit. Was unsure of where the best place to set up shop would be.

Skip the par 3 and enjoy the rest of Augusta National with nobody around. We did this 2 years ago and can't recommend it enough. No crowds and there are still some good groups to follow who aren't playing in the par 3

Yep, I agree with this ^^^^

all tournament players are asked to vacate "the" course by 1.30, this is perhaps more adhered to now than in the past (post 2011).
If you desire to head to the Par 3 course here is the best way to do it, (I have caddied that tournament).
Once you leave the course walk the par three course paying more attention to the course, the players will be there once you settle in your final position. The course has a couple of bottlenecks, though you can move reasonably quickly if you do not stop to take too may photogrpahs. Like others have said the amphitheater that is eight and nine is a good place for an hour or two though the star of the Masters is Augusta National... So... get there when they open... park at 7.30 be early through the gates and you'll have a great day and will get to know it. Any later and I would perhaps skip the par three contest (it is a zoo) and would waft around the deserted course!

For the par 3, sit on the hill behind the 9th green, grab a beer and marvel at how good these guys are from any distance. You'll see 2 holes and even have a chance for a post round autograph if you're lucky. That's how I got Mr. Palmer to sign my ticket as a keepsake for my daughter, whose first name is Palmer.
Jack, Arnie, Gary, Tom - an awesome time seeing the legends "slap it around"

My experience as well. Par 3 was packed when we went a few years ago where you could get very close to the action on the regular course and see lots of great players all over the course. Wednesday is a great day to go. Enjoy!

I attended the Par 3 Contest a few years ago. I was terribly disappointed with the majority of the pros. They lacked passion and looked like they were just going through the motions. I think ESPN makes the Par 3 appear better than it actually is.

Skip the Par 3 and get out on the course. You will get a better chance to see those pros who are not in the Par 3 or who have not yet teed off on the Par 3.

Enjoy your trip and take it all in.

I'd recommend below the tee box on 8. You then get clear views of both 8 & 9. My buddy and I were right on the ropes coming down. He got a high five from Jack, who was playing with Arnie. Was super cool.

This. Yes you should walk and enjoy the course but remember to take plenty of pics. Put a few on here lol!

I'm planning on getting there before the gates open - is it unrealistic to expect to be able to place my chair near the ropes on a tee box?

This is a good question.

Go to the first tee and walk every hole. As you walk down #6 turn right and get an egg salad sandwich. Continue walking the course and alternate between pimiento cheese sandwiches and egg salad the rest of the day. Once you walk up 18 stroll over to the par 3 contest. Have fun and enjoy the best walk in all of professional sports.
