Just wondering how did you go to the G30 driver from the R1? i have the R1 and have tried several drivers to try and kick out the R1 but no luck. Thanks

What have you put up against the R1?

Consistency off the tee is my biggest weakness. The R1 combined with the Grafalloy ProLaunch Blue shaft is a killer combo. Good strikes yield 280-290 baby draws; when hit on the sweet spot BOOOOOOM! With that said, half of my drives per round could use some more help, and that's where I'm hoping the G30 can step in. My first on-course test will be this Sunday.

Lovely bag Architect. Would love to know your process for selecting the Tour 80 over the 65 in the driver (lower ball flight/spin?) and the TFC in your 5 wood. My SS is similar to yours and on testing I think I prefer the TFC in the fairway however haven't had a chance to hit the Tour 80 in the driver. Was there a marked difference in the Tour shafts for you? Thanks

Good question. Baker's Custom Golf has been my fitter for the past few years. I love them as they use the technology, but also listen to your needs as they closely watch your swing, and (again) listen and observe your feedback. The last driver head I brought to them was a R1 that they fit with a ProLaunch Blue, which has a low 2.8-torque. The Tour 80 S is 2.9-torque, and the TFC is 4.9. This was a HUGE difference for my swing and shaft loading profile, and should prove to be a good fit. Spin numbers were also down between the Tour and TFC.

The 5-wood has the TFC 419F S, 3.3 torque. I haven't tried this yet on the course, and to be honest I hope that I don't end up over-cooking hooks with this shaft. I'll let you know how it goes when I get a chance to put it to the test.

Thanks Architect - look forward to further updates. I did read on here somewhere the torque testing method for Ping shafts uses a 2lb weight as opposed to the standard 1lb weight most other OEMs employ. Not sure if there is any merit in that. This leads to higher ratings on their shafts.

The TFC in the 3 wood I tested went dead straight (I normally play a baby fade). I tested on quite a windy day and it sliced through the wind. The Tour 80 shaft had similar results with a firmer more "metallic" feel. I would be happy with both.

Yeah I play S55s. I'd probably be better off with the I25s. If hybrids were never introduced I wouldn't play the 55s. 3 and 4 iron would require too much from me as I don't have the SS to make those clubs effective day in and day out. Only fly my 7 iron 150ish. So it just came down to looks for me and the S55 wedge really suits my eye better.

anytime - when you are here drop me a line ;) As I am living in Zurich I do not play often in Basel, but I like the Golfclub Bâle and Kandern. Anyway, best courses in Zurich is Zürich-Zumikon, Otelfingen and of course Schönenberg. Additionally I have a flat in the mountains and there I play Lenzerheide most often. Not a very long course but tough if you don't have your head together - and the view to all those mountains is just brilliant.

 • 3 weeks later...

This cold snap in Arkansas is driving me nuts! Normally there are few weeks throughout the winter season where it's too cold to play, but this is too much! Since my game is stuck to in-house drills, I've decided to share some photos of my home course that I took last summer. Stonebridge Meadows Golf Course is a public track cut through the topography of Northwest Arkansas. The front 9 is my favorite as it is more challenging and also is free of houses on the course. Good looking track. It must be tough to score well on 18. (looks like there was an extra digit included in the yardage)
It is a fun course (and thanks I did correct that 5000-yard Par-5). Some holes you can be sloppy off the tee without punishment, but it does have its challenges. Hole-5 is especially difficult with a narrow landing area for your drive and a fairway that slopes hard into trouble, then back up a hill to the pin. I'll take a par or bogey there any day.
