Anyone in the Kansas City area have any experience with this? I signed up to play in the first event, and don't want to make an Word not allowed of myself. Any insight would be welcome. Thanks.

I hadn't heard of it until reading this post. Sounds pretty cool...let us know how that first event goes! I could see myself playing in a couple maybe, but definitely not the majority of them.

i've played in 3 of these. i had a good time. the guys were serious about their golf but everybody was friendly. i really wish i could play in some more. for $75 you get to play some good tracks.

i thought they did a good job of keeping the pace up, i think i finished all 3 of mine in 4-415. my group even got told we were out of position once which i appreciated. everything seemed well organized, was on time, and overall good events.

Thanks for the insight. I'm going to start with the one tournament at Sycamore Ridge and see how that goes. If my schedule allows I may play a couple of more.

have you played there before? that back 9 is a SOB.

Yes i have, and yes it is... Keeping it in play is priority #1 on the back

good deal. i just didn't want you to play that place for the first time in a tournament.
[/quote]

Yea, my buddies think I have lost it with that place being my first tournament experience. Should be interesting at least... Thanks again.

eh, as long as you go into it with the right attitude i think it's fine.

i've been even par on the front 9 at that place and happy to walk off with an 82 by the end of it. i haven't played there in a while and i used to have some major directional control problems. well...i still do...but not nearly as bad.

let me find my old thread about where i "blew up" (score, not etiquiette) during my first ever tournament. i went and spoke with my partners afterwards and none of them had any issue playing with me. i kept the pace up, was still pleasant, and generally just wasn't an a-hole about it. bottom line is don't worry about your score, just go play and you'll be fine.

The biggest thing I remember about Sycamore is that course knowledge is huge on the back 9. Me and a buddy were playing with some guys who supposedly knew the course, and their advice got me into trouble off the tee a couple of times. Nothing like hitting what you thought was a perfect drive and finding out it is through the fairway and into the woods or into a ravine... It was still fun though.

I appreciate any insight. I'm trying not to worry about what I will shoot, just make sure I have fun with whomever I am playing with. That is what got me back into golf in the first place.

i can't even tell you how many times i've tried to turn a 3w around the corner on 11 and blasted it into the trees through the fairway however many times it is equals the number of times i've played the course.

and yeah, I agree course knowledge is super huge on the back. starts right off with that blind shot on 10 i still don't know what to do...kinda like ~14 or so on the back of Golf Club of Kansas. there's another hard dogleg left hole, maybe 14 i never figured out. there's probably 5 or 6 holes on the back that if i went to play today I would be standing on the tee shooting the laser on half a dozen different lines trying to figure out what to do.

I'm considering entering a few of these, including the opener at Sycamore Ridge. That course, particularly the back nine, is tricky, but I love it.

I have played in one state line event a couple years back at oakwood and it was a blast. But the bad part is they are all during the week and I just cant make that work.

Sycamore is a great track, once went 5 under through the first 5 on the back and had a 20 footer that almost went in on 15. It was my best birdie run ever.

You have to get the ball over the hill on 10 and stay a little left but not too much or you will kick into the woods. I think it is a lateral down the left side. If you go right then the big tree gets in the way.

On 11 I get it out in front of the bunkers, then lay up to 100 yards so I have a full shot into the green. DONT GO OVER THE GREEN

On 12 go for the green or layup either way its an easy hole. If your drive gets a little loose there is a drop area at the bottom of the hill and you can still make a par

On 14 don't cut too much of the corner but do cut some. Stay left of the boxes on top of the hill

On 15 if your on the left or back box stay right, if your on the right box then cut the corner over the trees and you should be just in front or on the green. DONT GO LEFT. The ball will run through easily

On 16 the ball will run like crazy if you get it over the hill in the fairway, i have hit a million tee shots there that looked like there was no way they would run through but they always do. In my younger days I used to hit driver over the creek and down into the bottom fairway. Haven't tried in a while and it isn't really worth the risk score wise. Plenty of room to hammer your second shot up by the green. They took out the bunkers on the right so no real danger

On 18 HIT IT HARD

Have fun!

agreed....weekdays are tough.

the course strategy above is funny, as that is not what i did at all. probably why i've never broke 40 on the back there.

my miss is right, so the last time i remember playing there i layed back on 10 off the tee and missed right then had to hit a big high 6i over that damn tree. too much fade trying to hit it high, landed on that slope to the right of the green, in the woods, hit another one....double. i was trying to lay up on 11 but didn't have a good number (before i had GPS or a laser), hit a 3w at the bunker that bounced through the fairway into the woods....double. i had a 36 on the front and went double-double on 10 and 11  . this was back when i was an 8 or 9 cap, think i went 36-46 for an 82 and was happy because with the course rating that still came out as like a 7.

i like the course even though it has for sure gotten the better of me. i need to play it another time or two before moving down south.

I was going to drive out to play Eagle Bend on Sunday, but I might make a change of plans. I will let you know ASAP, I might join you. I've always like Sycamore Ridge, the greens have been great when I've played.

Well.....today did not go well at all. I was decent off the tee for the most part, but my approach and wedge shots were terrible, anything with any feel was terrible...putting...terrible. I kept leaving my self with 50-60 yard wedges which was not a good thing today. 98 with only losing one ball...terrible. I have not played this bad since I returned to golf 3 years ago. The guys I played with were great, tournament was well run. Wish I could have done better, but man. I think i got off when a couple shots I thought would be good ended up not so, and I let it get to me and snow ball from there. Hopefully my work schedule allows me to play a couple more.

Any of you guys play?

I wanted to enter, but I didn't get a chance to play. I couldn't make it work with the office.

Don't sweat your tournament experience. We have all been there. With my first big number at a tournament, I took it as a learning experience and a test of the state of my game. I tried to look back on what I did well and what needed to improve. That has helped me the most. Did you have fun? That's all that matters. The scores will come.

Bringing this thread back to life. Anyone played in any of these lately? I'm thinking about doing my first one on 5/31 at LionsGate. Any tips about the tour/course/anything? I've never played LionsGate so not sure what to expect.
