Long-term feedback on Ping Eye 2 XG Wedges?

I'm looking for the easiest to hit wedges possible that are still playable on our screwy lies in Florida - sometimes tight and thin sometime lush within a few feet of each other.

I've played the old school version and loved them for the conidence on approach shots and did hit some good greenside and bunker shots with them. Short game flubs and no time for practice is my biggest worry right now.

Thanks for any input!

I'm a hacker, so take my opinion for what it's worth--about a 15 handicap, 62, 93-97 swingspeed. And I have a full-time job so I don't get much practice time either. I have a couple of the Ping XG wedges and I love them. I spent a few years trying other wedges, particularly the more forgiving Cleveland wedges. I could never feel fully comfortable with them. I have a Taylormade ATV 50 degree that works well as a gap wedge. But I have the XG sand and lob wedges (56 and 60, I think) and they've made life much easier for me. Once I figured out how to use the sand wedge, I've become a decent sand player--even get compliments, which never occurred before in my golfing life. They're a bit funky looking and I'm sure they're not as easy to maneuver as Vokeys or Mizunos, but for my purposes--usually getting out of a mess around the green, or going over a trap or water near the green, given my modest skill level, they are superb.

Okay...with a Ping XG LW is it reasonable to open up the club face, at all! from any lie! and get the club under the ball from any distance without smashing into the 0* latitude line of the pro v1x?

I've been looking into this wedge for a couple months, like the OP, and I hit a lot of 30-70 yard shots with my 60* to red pins on hard Palm Springs greens from hard pan lies. Can the XG handle the job?

Of all the 60* wedges I have tried, I got the best results when laying open the XG. It is a flop shot monster for me. I go outside and cut across it and it will shoot straight up and land like a butterfly. I had mixed results on longer shots and is why its not currently in the bag though.

Thanks for insight. That giant sole looks impossible to lay flat. I really have to try this thing out once and for all.

Open either, but open the 60* and you have the best lob, drop and stop you're going to find. Excellent in the sand too, hard, soft whatever. No offense, but if you can't hit this out of the sand you can't hit anything. Love the Ping grind on these. Let's you position the club for any shot you want. I really like the UW with the I20s so that's why I got another 60* and had them make it 58. My Eye2s were getting worn down so the 56/60XGs went in the bag with the Eye2 irons.

Hmm I need to consider the XG LW.
I currently play a g25 LW and love it for greenside work and sand. But can't open it up for the flop. If the XG is as good from the sand and for chipping as the G25 I might have to pull the trigger.

Don't do it Eric. The G25 is just as good. I think the Eye 2s are great but they don't blend at all with the g series. Go with a 58 degree wide sole Gorge.

I just barely sold my Eye 2 XG LW. Here is why:

I bent it to 58* and used it everywhere - the sand, rough, full shots, chips, etc. I have always used my 58* wedge (regardless of brand) for most shots under 100 yards. I love the Eye 2 XG with one exception, I couldn't get the leading edge and my eye to get along with each other. For some reason the curve of the leading edge was in my head and anytime I had a short chip, I couldn't feel square to my target. It was so frustrating because I loved the wedge but it just didn't fit my eye. The high toe, grind and everything else was perfect. I have played Ping irons most of my adult life but for some reason, this dang wedge just didn't work for me.

Good luck!
