I just picked up the 70 LZ in a 915...it's a little long for me however. Before cutting it down from the grip end, I wanted to know if anyone knows how this changes the shaft profile? Currently it plays at about 45 inches and I generally do well around 44.5 inches.

Thanks!
[/quote] Cutting a 1/2" off the butt won't change anything but the swing weight - you will lose 3 points, making the driver around D0-D1. You may want to demo it in the B-1 .75* flat setting before cutting it down, this seems to offset the 1/2" length. I'm very interested in finding something a little lower launch/spin than my diamana blue 60x. Am thinking of the LZ 60 in a 6.5 flex. Let me know how this shaft performs in the 915 head!

Similar flex profile to the Wishon S2S Red. From Wishon site:

  • S2S Red designed with a unique, different bend profile – the majority of shafts for players with better swing fundamentals follow a similar progression of stiffness of butt firm/center firm/tip stiff over their length. The butt stiff/center soft/tip stiff design of the S2S Red breaks this tradition to offer the better player a high performance shaft for better control with solid, not too stiff feel.
  • S2S Red shafts are for golfers with an above average to forceful transition and average to fast tempo with a later to very late release to deliver more clubhead stability at impact for control and accuracy but without a “boardy stiff” feel.

I am going with these in everything in my bag. Been demoing the S2S Red in my 7 iron (regular and stiff) for about a month and a half. And, a regular in my G30 for about the same amount of time. Going with regular as they do feel smooth but play stout - coming from PX 5.5 which was a good fit. Better feel, less vibration, same or better accuracy, similar traj to PX, and a bit more distance.

TrueTemper,

How would you respond to the research done by UST that says a very stiff mid section increases accuracy? This would be the opposite bend profile of the LZ. Many of the iron shafts gaining popularity have gone this route as well (KBS Tour-V, Nippon Modus).

Thanks in advance.

DT

I am unaware of UST's research into their theory. Our goal with this technology was to find a way to bring more ball speed without going light weight (hard to get much lighter than the PXv 39). We have always known that increasing loading can increase stored energy released through the ball but can come at a loss of accuracy (a perfect illustration of this is swinging a ladies flex shaft as hard as you can).

Our goal was to create a shaft that is easier to load but without a loss of stability or accuracy.

We have done this in two ways.

1: Increasing tip and butt stiffness around the LZ. The EI profile attached shows the loading zone in the middle of the shaft with the slightly stiffer butt and tip sections. This gives us the same launch and spin control as original PX shafts but the soft mid section makes the shaft easier to load

2: Flex Lok material. The Loading zone has a reduced laminate thickness compared to standard PX which could lead to increased deformation of this section resulting in a loss of energy transfer and stability. The Flex Lok material we wrap around the loading zone brings stability back to this region.

Thanks for the questions and your interest

What current Project X shaft most closely resembles the Project X LZ? I recently gave one of the Project X Handcrafted LZ's a go and was really impressed with it.

Yeah, I am loving my LZ right now. I can't remember a shaft that I have felt this much confidence in. In terms of accuracy and consistency it has to be a leader out there. The mid launch and low spin for me are also a bonus. I had a buddy of mine hit it today and was blown away at how good it was. Really need to try this shaft if you haven't.

Are you still loving the LZ or have you moved on? If so, what is the current shaft of choice and what made you switch?
