Love the feel of the CIRCA 62

but it doesnt set up well to my eye

Ive been looking for an anser style putter for a while and have been interested in the new redwood, mizuno bettinardi, and odyssey black series putters.

Ive tried the newport scottys and feel like they are little firmer than i would like. So after trying some scottys my friend let me try out his circa 62. The feel on this putter is fantastic but im not anxious to spray and wipe it down every time i use it, and im also not 100% comfortable with the looks of the putter.

Ive been wanting to try a bettinardi C series putter but cannot find one to demo. Neither can i find a Ping Redwood to try either. The only one ive tried so far out of my to try list is the black series. They felt good to me but not quite as soft (yet firm (cool) ) as the circa.

Is anything out there going to feel as good as the circa, with an anser shape and without me having to spend more time maintaining than putting? Redwood? mizuno bettinardi???

Well the new Circas are due out soon (April I think) and have the new Charcoal Mist finish which is supposed to be a lot easier to maintain then the original. I have an original Circa and they are fantastic. I'd be surprised if you couldn't find one of the 6 models that didn't fit your eye.

I've heard good things about both the redwood and the Bettis but not tried them.

Else if you are looking for something s little more unusual but still of the highest standard, you can try a T.P.Mills softtail or klassic. Mill's are possibly the softest feeling putters around. Other options are byrons or slighters too.

If you like the feel of a Circa, you should look into the gun blue and the oil can lines.

From reading your post, it sounds like you wouldn't be sold on a Circa 62 even if it had a more durable finish.

The three putters you mentioned are anser shaped...The Bettinardi/Mizuno C-series are made from 11L17 Carbon Steel and I believe the Odyssey Black Series are made from a 1025 Carbon Steel both of which should be similar to Circa 62's Carbon Steel. The Ping Redwood is made of 303 Stainless Steel.

Generally speaking, stainless steel is more "firm" then a Carbon Steel putters, but I was pleasantly surprised to find that the Ping Redwood (in my opinion) had better balance, heft and overall feel. It felt silky smooth when you hit the sweetspot...more so than my experiences with either the Bettinardi/Mizuno or the Odyssey. It all comes down to personal preference and I would recommend waiting to demo one before making the purchase.

Now to add another in the mix, there are quite a few people who swear by Whitlam/Gauge Design putters. I have yet to try one, but am curious how it would compare to a Ping Redwood.

I agree with ckay that the gun blue / oil can line will suit your feel fancy the best (really not that hard to care for). I have had a gauge / whitlam...it had a crisper feel but was still a great putter. If you are looking for a soft newport/answer style try a byron carbon proto or a heritage legend. All of these are great putters. Good luck on your quest.

I would say try out a Yes Callie-f, the forged model of the Callie. It's got a great look, REALLY soft feel to it, rolls the ball great and fairly low maintenance.

If you like the feel of the Whitlam/Gauge Design, keep an eye out in the classifieds on this site. I've seen some "like new" models go between $200-$350.

If you're fairly set on either a Bettinardi/Mizuno C-series or Ping Redwood...I'm a Bettinardi guy, but between the those two models, I'd give it to the Ping Redwood by a hair. Again, just my preference.

The golds factory putters look really intriguing, but it would be tough for me to pull the trigger on one of those without trying it first. What makes it so good in your eyes?

they are soft, but not mushy...they are beautiful...center hit = a perfect "click"...

i find that the ball comes off the face of the gauge balde a little too hot...

i havent used the gold's factory on a real green yet, but on the Boomerage putting thing i have, its money

and, even if it sucks, its still purdy!

For the price range, I thought the Ping Redwood was phenominal. It really surprised me as Ping's generally don't fit my eye.

Now...if you are looking to spend some too much money on a putter, a Bettinardi DASS putter is another story. (cool)

BTW - That Gold's Factory is sweet looking! I have the same problem (as I do with Whitlam/Gauge Design), I have to try it before I buy it. Too many impulse buys based on looks gone wrong. Putting is so personal you just want to be sure it fits your unique needs.
