Note: if there was an option for 78, I would have chosen that one as I am an optimistic fool when it comes to my golf game.

As much as I'd like to claim there was, there really isn't any statistical basis behind this idea. I just thought it could be kind of cool to call your round in a sense, and then see if you could go out and back it up. Also thought it would be fun to track on a spreadsheet with my fellow WRX'ers and see how everyone does over the course of a summer. How many times did you score below your projected score, how many times over, etc... I thought the money leader idea would be cool too, but I couldn't think of a good way to make people choose challenging scores unless I weighted the lower scores with more money so the money leader idea doesn't really work since it heavily favors the lower handicap player.

The idea kind of came from a betting game I used to play with my Saturday morning group. We would play 50 cent skins with carry-overs, but as a side bet on the first tee box you could bid for your round. We were all very equal in terms of ability, so everything was based off of gross scoring. One guy would say "I'll start at 78" for example, and then each person in the foursome would continue to bid back and forth claiming a lower score until nobody was comfortable going any lower. Each person chipped in an extra $3 aside from the skins game, and if the winner of the bid goes lower than the score he claimed, he won the pot. If not, he owed everyone else $3 each. So say for example the bid started at 78, then someone dropped out of the bidding at 75, then another dropped out at 73, and then me and the last guy bid it down to 71, which is a number that I claimed before the last guy says "Ok, you get it at 71." Then I have to shoot 71 or better to win the pot or I owe each of the other guys $3 each. It doesn't matter if I finish dead last in my group and we are all under 71, since I claimed it I still win that side-pot. It's a good way to tie confidence into the round, by seeing how low you are willing to go and still bet money on it.

Still waiting on a few more scores to come in so I'm going to hold off until lunch or early afternoon to post results. Nice job to you guys that accomplished your goals though. I agree with eagle, you guys are good. So far not a single person has failed to beat their selected score. I'm out a lot of play money so far, but it's all good because I'm glad to see everyone playing so well.

I unfortunately had some things come up and did not get to play on Saturday, so my "under 70" round that I claimed is now null and void. I did play Friday and shot 70 exactly (which would have been a loss), and if you guys would like we can add a revision that allows you to substitute a different round from the weekend if you don't get to play on the day that you chose. It's up to you guys though? I just want to keep it limited to a Friday-Sunday thing so that no one gets burnt out trying to keep up with this thread, and also so I don't have to update results every day... This was the first weekend since probably early March that I have not been able to play. I will get to play this afternoon though, and actually should get to play most days this week so I'll be ready to go next time.

as this is your party, i think this is a fine revision. caveat: unless your initial bet was on a tournament vs non-tournament setting.

btw, i would have done it on my 'other' round as well. snuck out and played on friday, shot a 79 (+7) on a longer, much harder, us open qualifying course. was -by far- the best round of my golf season.

Well I lost big time this weekend. Never did feel comfortable over a shot. Managed a few decent holes on the back nine, but generally hacked my way to an 88 on Saturday. It was ugly.

I am playing all day this Saturday for the Solstice. I will say under 100 for the first round, under 90 for the second and under 95 for the third. If we get more in than 3 than Ill say under 105 because Ill be tired by then hahaha.

Course is 70.5 135 I am an 18 so the under 90 one is a gamble haha but Im challenging myself! will update sunday

I'll be playing this Saturday and am going to take the Under 70 category along with Free swingr. Now that I have a little fake money to play with, I'm going to test my luck. Ambitious goal but I'm going for broke. Hope you guys play well and accomplish your goals. Good luck to those of you playing in tournaments. I originally planned on playing in another tournament this weekend but decided to take a week off from the competitive schedule.

 

I decided to go ahead and count my Friday round in which I shot a 70 but claimed "under 70" as a loss since I didn't get to play Saturday like I had hoped. Probably wouldn't have counted it had I won, I would have just treated it as if I didn't play since we didn't make this revision beforehand. From now on though we will still choose a specific round to place our wagers on, but if you don't get to play on that day then you may substitute another round as long as it was played within the Friday through Sunday time frame.

 

Here are the Week 2 results. Pretty good week for everyone but me and jholz. We got a little ambitious and didn't come through... Look forward to doing it again this weekend.

If you don't mind, select one of the rounds that day and which category you would like to compete for. That sounds like a busy day of golf , but I'm trying to keep this to a one round per-weekend type of thing for everyone so that it doesn't get overwhelming for participants to keep up with and also for me to chart the results. You can choose your first round, last round, or any one in between, but only one can be applicable for the HCAY challenge.

I am leaving this afternoon for a vacation down in Florida so my posting may be kind of sporadic, but I'll try to make it to the computer to give an update on Monday. I'm playing a course down there at the LPGA International (Hills/Legends Course) that doesn't seem real long but it's tight with a lot of trouble. Plays 6984 yards and is rated 74.1/142. I'm really hoping to come in under 75, but I wouldn't be willing to wager on it. This week I'm going to take the [u][b]Under 80[/b][/u] category. Wish me luck, and good luck to all of you.

I'm tenatively scheduled for Saturday morning back on my home course. 73.5/125 at just about 7,000 yards. I don't think I've broken 80 my last four or five rounds, but I'll gamble and say under 80.

I failed. Double Bogey on 18 for an 81.

Second 18 of the day moved up to the men's tees and was better with a 75. But sadly, that one doesn't count. I lose.

78 on Sunday! My buddy shot 68 but I am not too mad at him because he is hooking me up with a cheap round on the Ocean Course at Kiawah this Sunday. I will go with Under 85 there, we will be playing from the tips and if the wind is blowing it will be brutal.

I am a big guy, 6'4" 285. I swing around 115 with the driver so I can poke it out there a good bit. I am hoping that it won't beat me up too bad. I think it will be a lot of fun to play all the way back and see just how much better the pros are than me, I am assuming 10-15 shots haha.
