Titleist's new 915D2 and 915D3 Drivers: In-hand photos

Recommended Posts

Lets be honest, the Titleist 915 series will be a success. Right there with the looks - take away the small changes with the allignment and ARC. Important is that they didn't tinker with surefit, the overal black finish and the painting.
I didn't own many drivers since I started playing but eventually have the Titleist 913D3 in my bag. Although I always liked Titleist drivers for their looks and sound, I just choose to play other (maybe more affordable one). When buying my previous driver, I had a choice between the 909 and Cobra ZL. At that time the Cobra was just better choice because I wasn't too consistent and this club was just more forgiving and a long beast (take away the 46" shaft that I cut down eventually). Even this time I bought a second hand 913 because I wanted to be fitted for my next driver looking at other shaft options (Oban, Graphite Tour AD) so wanted to wait for the 915. Even if I continue to play the 913, still will be looking at the 915 hybrid or woods.
Titleist loyalist or not, Titeist driver will be always by first joice going forward. Luckily the perception changed that Titleist is for good players only and I do complement people with higher handicaps if they have Titleist clubs in the bag. You can put a 910/913 D2 10.5" in everyones hand and they will play well with it. I do feel sorry sometimes for the newbies with their RBZs/SLDRs woods because I know that one year later they will look to spend more money again to replace those clubs. With Titleist I don't have the feeling that clubs become dated. I feel encouraged seeing players like Spieth playing a 910 model, just because this is what works best for him - I am sure he will switch to 915 eventually. Looking back when Rory played a 906 3 Wood even if the 910/913 line was out. back to 2013 Rory probably would rather continue playing the 913 driver when the Nike; took him only one year to get used to the Covert driver and now this is apparently his best driver ever - whoever believes this.
I have a 910F and not looking to replace this club any time soon. I am looking forward hitting the 915 and seeing the complete line in autumn. Keep the pictures coming and hopefully there will be more reviews soon.

You can't judge performance of the club based upon someone who is playing badly. He would surely have gone back to the 910 to try and boost confidence with something familiar when playing well below his best.

The fact that he had switched likely suggests that it is an improvement over his current but that his form can't take advantage of that.

The fact that Spieth switched is both encouraging and discouraging for me. On the +, if he switched it must be awesome. On the -, I had justified not ever trying the 913 in part by telling myself "well if tour pros are sticking with their 910's, why wouldn't I stick with mine?"
Spieth's lasted one round then went back to 910.
I don't think it would matter what driver he's using, the bottom line is he's just not swinging well right now, at least not like he has been.
Spieth is not a very accurate driver of the ball. He scores well because he is very good around the green, and on the green.
That's not entirely true. This year, he's struggling at 59% fairways ranked 127, but last year he was 67.8% fairways ranked 18.

"Just saw the 915 in Butch Harmon's bag today. The driver looks fantastic! Butch says that it is A LOT lower spin than the 913! He was telling me that it doesn't want to curve. It just flies straight!"

Is that a speed pocket? Like taylormade?
Also think they could do better on the headcover
No it's a compression channel. Like nike.
Also think that was a fantastic first post btw.

I think this may be the year Titleist fills out my golf bag.

I will wait to see if Bridgestone will eve release new product in 2015 and I will also try out the Srixon 945s too. Titleist seems to be one of the few that has always looked great aesthetically over the years and they don't try to reinvent the wheel. Give me good clean lines and minimal gimmicks any day. Though it's been over 10 years since I've played Titleist I always have respected the company and it's products.

I saw the 915 in person yesterday at the buy.com event. Almost every Titkeist staffer that I saw had one in the bag. I don't mean just the new head cover over their old driver, I mean actually had the driver in the bag. I purposely stood on a par 5 tee box talking with players and caddies about the driver. Sweet looking and sounding driver. Can't wait to get one.

I thought it had more of a thud sound to it. The guys I talked with said it felt really hot coming off the face. Two caddies told me their players were really excited about how well it performed. I was surprised how many were in play already.

It was easy to compare. Tomasulo hit a 913 and then there were 2 915's hit right after that in the same group.

Sorry. I didn't get a chance to ask about spin numbers. These were just quick conversations while they were waiting for the fairway to clear

Yep...already discussed at length in this thread.

exactly, and he's playing poorly so not a good judge... however over 60% of their staffers are gaming the new driver full time after just the second week of testing...and look at the distance numbers from above. This is going to be a great driver!

Another thing to consider is just the amount of time and fitting that these guys have had with the 915. It could take some of them weeks to get dialed in and comfortable with the new driver and others will pick it up right away and find their ideal set up quickly and begin to game the driver almost immediately. There will even be some who won't mess with it much until the off season when they can go get fit in Carlsbad and practice without the pressure of tournament competition looming.
I think this has a lot to do with it. These aren't your average joes who are going to make changes overnight or just because its the latest and greatest. Give them some time with it and I'm sure the majority of Titleist staffers will be switching over
