A big 'shout out' to John at GolfWorks Canada (whoever he is : ) Fabulous customer service over the phone yesterday. 12 hours after our conversation, a Christmas miracle, my order arrived today.

On the total opposite end of the spectrum, my wife spent 90 minutes on the phone today with Walmart (mostly on hold) and received little assistance. She placed an order for personalized mugs nearly a month ago and they've gone missing. Walmart claims that the mugs were shipped on the 11th, but it turns out they haven't left the warehouse and have yet to be found. My wife realizes they will not be here in time for the holidays, but is still unsure of the status of her order.

Moral to the story . . . golf saves lives.

My parents and my sister came to visit tonight. My sister brought her kids with her(5yo and a baby), Her son Joshua(the 5yo) got here and like he always does, went immediately for the basement looking for the mini hockey nets that me and the Piglet used to use when he was younger. But instead, where the hockey stuff once was, he found something else. The Piglets old 7/8 iron and a soft rubber street hockey ball. Needless to say he now wants to play golf, and I gotta say, his swing looks pretty good for a first time ever.

I actually didn't find most in Alabama to have that much of an accent, but I would love to hear a Canadian transplant in 'Bama (or vice versa). "Oh, holy crow, eh. Ya'll see the Huntsville Havoc game this weekend? That hoser goalie couldn't stop a puck to save his life, bless his heart."

Yup. When I got engaged to my Newfie first wife we phoned her mom in St John's to tell her the news. After I spoke to my mother-in-law to be, she said to my fiance, "he's got an 'ell of an accent hasn't he?"

Wow, flash back. Back in 1972 some buds and I went camping in
Banff and Jasper Natl parks. In the spot next to us was a group
of guys from Toronto about the same age as us. (we were 19).
This was in Banff.

Those guys were a hoot and we had a great time hanging out
with them, drinking O'keefes Extra Old Stock , Molsons, and
Labatts, you name it. We were even smoking Canadian cigs.

We ribbed each other about the accents and after every sentence
we'd say, eh?! lol. We told them people from Calif didn't have an
accent and they said we sounded like cowboys, lol, cause we
pronounced "get" as "git", haha

Wow, even back in '72 you Canadians were happy cheerful people.
Must be a legacy thing passed down thru the generations, haha

LOL, that quote is right on the money, especially the "bless his heart"
translated means "he's a dumba**", lol. Good one Gaucho. Alabama
is weird for accents; some hardly have one and some you can't even
understand, lol.

Cobi and I moved from Calif so we're used to being the ones with
the accent. People say "you're not from here, are you?".

I'm from the Boston area. I have practically no accent. My sister? Same thing. Mom and Dad? It's like a husband and wife from Goodwill Hunting.

Bah-stun? Where you pahk the cahr in the cahr pahk? Got a couple friends from there and I still like to use the Craig Ferguson line of "Didn't catch that. Must be something foreign."

As for the South, I LOVE the line "child is slow as Christmas" as my all time favorite heard while traveling. With Canada, it is the mother-in-law and the "oh holy crow, eh?" and once in a while I hear an "aboot" even after all these years in California and Nevada.

When I was in 'Bama, I was in Huntsville so I had a mix of local, some DEEP south Alabama, and quite a few people from Tennessee so I got a mix. Given the local military presence, you get a HUGE mix, but very few were near Cajun level in regards to needing to listen hard to understand. Well, that and having people asking me about my accent and why I didn't say things like "brah" and "dude" all the time. I would go "Valley" on them and say something in the range of, "Like, we only TOTALLY say that in the movies, brah. The Valley thing is so out of style. Like, oh my god!"

My wife hasn't expressed an interest yet, but long term I can see us playing the game together. At the moment she likes to drive the golf cart while I play.

My playing partner's tremble when I roll into the parking lot in my Dodge Journey (cartoon family stickers emblazoned across the back windshield). Someday I hope to upgrade to a mini-van. Darn bag and 'trolley' never fit just right.
