Miura, Honma, Maruman or ??

I'm putting together a collection of classic irons from the big name brands. I have most of them covered including Mizuno.

I have room for one more classic set from either Miura, Honma or Maruman.

 

I do rotate my collection through the bag so they will get use.

 

Which one do I go with???

Well, if you want a set of Miura Tournament Blades, I just took a 2-PW on a trade and they won't be supplanting my Baby Blades. I guess you know where my vote lies. All three of those brands are worthy of a collection.

imo, miura's are more of players irons and ones I would game often. I would get miuras any day. I feel like honmas and maruman are more for show that I would just keep at home in a case or shelf

If you're "collecting" get something that you'll have less of a chance of seeing anywhere else. And, if they need to be "playable", get something from Honma's TW series.

Honma gets my vote...

Miura Giken Japan only. I'd get the 1007 CBs in either Y Grind or the Specialty Grind. The new Roddio or Diamana blackboards are unique:

Just wondering how many of the Miura guys have tried the other brands? (I've tried plenty of Miuras but I haven't tried the others)

I have...most of the Kyoei forgings, which I like a lot...3-4 Epons, most of which I didn't care for...some Tourstage, which I like.

The issue with Kyoei forgings for me is the shovel 9i/PW...same for some Miuras, but not the BB. Tourstage are generally beautiful to look at and hit, if perhaps a bit extra harsh on mishits in my experience.

There are a few boutique brands and/or custom options that interest me, but I'm pretty happy with my BB.

I have played he Miura and the Marumans and I own the Maruman. Mine are about 20 years old, the Curtis Strange blades. They are what everyone raves about, butter smooth and solid when struck correctly. I have since laid them aside for some B'stone J40 CBs but I still love the blades.

Ive played several of the Miura's and they feel great. However, Epon has an edge with more forgivness in my opinion

Might be a [i]little[/i] bias, but I vote VEGA. Softer feel than Miura. Wide range of profiles.

Per the op's request, he was asking about Miura, Honma, or Maruman...but even if he wasn't specific, it's a big stretch to include Vega as a classic big name brand.

+1 for vega! have the raf-cm and love them.....dare i say i prefer them in feel over the mp14 and 29's....

Maybe not a "classic big name brand" stateside yet, but much bigger presence in Asia than Miura or Honma. We're working to get to be a big name brand here

Maruman SPSS. Daiwa DG273. Both superb if a tad difficult to locate the sweetspot..

I hope I didn't come off sounding anti Vega...Kyoei forgings are probably my favorite. I'd love to see a bigger Vega/JDM presence here!
