What is with all the atrocious threads today?! Jesus. Im going to say this once. IT IS A HORRIBLE THING FOR GOLF. The reasons are pretty obvious, Tiger made golf what it is today and by him not playing, it is declining to the state that it used to be. It is the Tiger effect. Golf without Tiger kills all the ratings, less new golfers join the sport, revenues from golf companies go down, Dicks pros get laid off because of this. This is all because of Tiger whether people want to believe it or not. TIGER IS GOOD FOR THE GAME. Now can we lock this up please!

So I hate to start another thread on Tiger but if he is "gone" is it really a bad thing? All I can think off is less money means the other top players have to play more. Isn't that a win?
[/quote]

gee, i thought i was gonna read tiger is retiring or something.

Golf courses in Australia are seeing a resurgence in the last year. Remember golf isn't just the USA. Asia is growing , the worlds best aren't from America any more. This could be good?

No still not good. Tiger being away is bad for the game. Any single pro will tell you this, american or non american. Other countries can still grow with Tiger around, but without him it makes it harder to for the game to grow in every single country.

Speaking of Jesus, I wonder if he knows he has been replaced as Savior? I heard that Tiger was going to be bigger than Ghandi, but never expected this.

Tiger out of golf is neither good or bad. It is what it is ... the cycle of life. Things go on. Babe Ruth is no longer in baseball, right?

And what's this preoccupation with "growing the game?" Do you personally stand to benefit from more people playing golf?

Golf is just fine the way it is. I'd actually like to see fewer people playing, as that would free up some space at the local muni's.

Obviously this is YOUR opinion. Because unless you have been under a rock, TW being gone is hurting the game when it comes to advertising/revenue dollars. You REALLY think purses and TV deals are gonna be as large and as abundant when TW leaves?
Everytime he's not on TV, ratings PLUMMET. That is FACT.

Newsflash, tiger will grow old and die.
Regardless of when he leaves the game he is ultimately going to leave the game. Is it anyone else's fault besides the media and sponsors that they have done NOTHING to prepare for this???
Media, sponsors, PGA , USGA and countless others have gotten fat off of Tiger, that includes Tiger himself. If Tiger leaving the game is in essence leading them to the slaughter house it is no one else's fault but their own.
We see this with companies whose CEO's die in plane crashes or simply retire. Chuck Schwab had to come out of retirement to save his company. Failure to plan for something that is going to happen is not anyone's fault but those stuffing their faces with someone they made a demigod out of.
If you feel that new golfers will not come to the sport I hope you do what YOU can to get them on the course. Whether that be funding projects, go to schools etc.

The problem is that the media and sponsors and whoever else will have trouble marketing Fowler, McIlroy et al. Do you really need me to tell you why???

There are more great golfers now than there was in Tiger's hayday and that was just proven in another thread yesterday by how low the scores are on courses.

This will pass and there will be another Tiger like individual who will pursue Jacks record..... and if I am not mistaken, Rory has the same amount of majors that Tiger had at this age. If Rory wins anything close to 10-14 he should be held in the same light as Tiger and Jack.... since everyone says Tiger won 14 playing with "better talent". Rory, in essence, is playing with better talent and that talent will only get exponentially better.

Clearly Tiger out of the game is bad. Have you checked ratings when he is playing vs when he isnt? Take this years Masters for example. Retailers are missing sales numbers by alot and therefore making changes in their company. This is because of Tiger.

We all benefit from the game growing. The more the game grows, the more likely it is golf courses will stay in business and new ones will pop up. We will also see manufacturers making new clubs giving us new options. This benefits us all. The less people that play, the less mom and pop shops there will be, the less driving ranges in your area, probably higher rates at courses, the list goes on an on.

Why do you care about falling revenues? Are you personally invested?

Why do you care about TV ratings? Are you an exec at GC?

The size of purses (something else you strangely care about) have NEVER decreased in the history of the PGA TOUR. They have always only increased.

Not only is the thread title deceptive, but the actual topic of this thread has been covered ad nauseum in this forum over the last few weeks.
