Which JDM Irons to go with ??

Hit-em

Recommended Posts

I'm really getting the bug to pick up a set of Forged JDM irons ..the problem I have is that I would have to buy them before trying them out first which could end up being a costly mistake !!

I'm presently playing Callaway X-Hot Pros so I'd be looking for something that would have the same playing characteristics in regards to playability & forgiveness

I've looked at the Honma World Tours 7W717P's & Bridgestone any opinions on these or any others to look at would be greatly appreciated

Thanks

Epon Af302's. Great feel, very forgiving, and one of the best models ever made.

Anything by Epon or Miura.

I have the Epon 703 which is a good set of irons , you could also look at the 503 .

Miura are harder to hit in my opinion , but everything is personal.

I agree with this. Miuras are great, but harder to hit. They require a good swing.

If he is currently playing the X-Hot pros, and want's something similar, he should not look at the 703 or 503, which are SGI and GI respectively. The 302 would be a much better choice.

I really like the look of the 2013 OnOffs Forged & the Epon AF-503 & AF-302's
Had anyone had any experience with S-Yard Gt Type irons or the Honma World Tour 7W717P irons ...I really like the looks of the Honma 717P's too..
Thanks for all of the responses & I look forward to more suggestions & feedback
Thanks again,

I'd get fit if your going to drop that much coin.

With that out of the way, epon/Nippon. 302 or 503 depending on skill level. As someone mentioned if you know your stuff a set of used epons can be put together and you wouldn't lose much if they didn't work out, dont read very many bad reviews though. Love mine and plan on gaming them for years with an eye open for a 503 4 iron.

I love my 503s but I'm sooo tempted to get a set of 302s. That and/or a set of Yoro Craft MP64s....

Stock graphite is Usually pretty good on an jdm product. At 63, I would recommend the epon 503, the extra distance over the 302 will be a big help. Look at the roddio shaft if cost is not a prob if you want something cheaper, Aerotech works great for the price.

The '13 on offs are very nice. I think possibly a touch more forgiving than the 302 and they feel really good. Not epon good but real good, soft....again, a great option of $ is a concern.

Miura makes some beautiful clubs but significantly less forgiving than other brands. In general, epon will feel the softest, onoff is pretty soft as well...Brands like Miura, Yamaha and even mizuno will be a bit crispier, possibly denser feeling...

If you want the best go w epon, if you want the best value, onoff or even some of the xxio GI offerings would be good.

How are the OEM graphite shafts on some of the JDM irons ?
I'm 63 yrs old with a little bit of arthritis in both hands so I'm kind of leaning at looking at a set with graphite shafts...
most JDM stock graphite shafts are of very high quality. They are usually a bit lighter and with a more pronounced kick than USDM counterparts. On-off, being part of the Daiwa group has a very extensive graphite shafts range.

You want a demo Onoff? Call http://www.easterngolfonline.com/ and ask for Mike. They are the North American distributors and will happily send you a demo club of the 2013 Forged. You'll be happy you did. Do not pay attention to the listed asking price. It is negotiable, or it was for me and at least one other member.

Graphite shafts? I had mine re-shafted with the UST Recoils due to some elbow tendonitis. Long story short...tendonitis is gone, and I absolutely love the Recoils. I also have the new version of them shafted with Roddios, and am not quite as happy with them as the recoils. Test everything you can get your hands on.

Best of luck!

Have not hit epons but had every Miura going 202's, 501's, TB's, BB's and lastly the mb-001's. But I picked up a set of vegas vc-01's off a guy on the list and I have to tell you that as much as I was a Miura man all the way (along with Mizzies) I am now sold on the vega's. So soft and so easy to hit compared to any Miura I've had. JMO but nevertheless overjoyed with the Vegas.

Well..... I ended up picking up a set of S-Yard Gt Type irons 5-PW from a fellow member for a great price, from what I can tell these are very similar to the Epon 302's both forged at Endo & designed my the same man ..look forward to seeing how they perform
I also placed an order for a OnOff 2013 forged AW off of Rakuten that will fill out the set of the S-Yards plus give me an opportunity to compare how it feels & performs to the S-Yards & my present X-Hots
The season is winding down but I'll be able to see how they perform & if I like how the OnOff feels I can get a set for next season !
Thanks for everyone input & suggestions ...much appreciated !

That Onoff Aw is not gonna be a good representation of the Onoff Forged. I have 2 of their wedges, and although they feel good, it's not even close to the 2013 forged set in feel or performance. FYI
The Onoff AW is a 2013 Forged it's part of the standard Onoff 2013 Forged set ..

if you're looking at a budget of less than $1000 i would suggest Mizuno or Bridgestone/Tourstage....

they seem to be more reasonably priced than the Miuras and Epons....

many of these premium JDM are well over $2000...
