Partner In My Scramble Group Was Longer Than Even WRX Long

I played in a two day scramble this week, and one of our foursome was a fellow who has qualified for the Remax Long Drive a few times. He's never made it out of Mesquite, but hits it as long as those who do. We had a great time, and it was pretty fun to watch him hit. He had two drivers - a G20 and a Krank one he uses for competition. Like many of the long drive competitors he had problems finding the fairway the first day, especially with his Krank. We convinced him to use his G20 as that was plenty long for us.

 

His longest drive was the one on to a 405 yard green using his G20. It felt awkward waiting for the green to clear as the group behind us was getting antsy, but once they saw him hit they also enjoyed the show the rest of the tournament. Another memorable shot was to the drivable 289 yard green over a canyon hazard. The hole was backed up as most groups were trying to put one on the green. He put one pin high using his 3 iron.

 

We unfortunately didn't take advantage of his long drives as we should have and finished a few shots back from the winners. Nonetheless, it was great fun watching the ball go so far. The combination of being 6'10" and very flexible resulted in some very fast club speed.

That is SO cool!

I have played with some young guns who hit it long. All I can do at my age is watch in awe and envy as they hit the ball well past anything that even resembles something I could hit.

Pretty funny when we were playing a par 3 that was playing around 175. I hit a strong 5 and was proud to have made it to the front. He hit an 8 over the green.....

I can only imagine the guys behind you and their comments as you waited for the 400 yard green to clear. Now THAT was probably funny!

There are a couple guys around here that compete in the long drive events and play in a few scrambles we have. It's always fun to watch, except the grunting leaves you a little nauseated. Sounds like you had a cool partner. I always think it's pretty cool to see

If you can driver 405 yards you don't need a 7 iron.

I just looked in my bag and nope, the 289 yard 3 iron is just not in there!
