I have one. Used it a couple of times. I also have a Swingbyte. Swingbyte is far superior, but it has it's own issues. I am not an engineer and I maybe way off, but these products are essentially flawed in that they are dependent on how close they are initially lined up to reference points. It seems to me the error rates are potentially quite high. If you are looking for some basic info and you are kind of clueless about your swing in terms of what is going on, it will help. For someone who has a decent idea of what their flaws are, there won't be any surprises.

The concept is pretty cool and I am sure we will look back in several years to see how archaic these are because I am certain it won't be long that we will have some pretty good personal launch monitors that are affordable in a few years.

Hopefully, somebody with a better technical background will chime in with a more in depth review for you.

What are you hoping to accomplish? Have you ever had your swing filmed or been on a launch monitor (non-golf retail store)?

Swing has been filmed multiple times, by instructor well known in this forum, and i video myself with a high speed Casio. Several times on Trackman/Flightscope. With above mentioned instructor and non big box fitter.
Accomplish? I dunno, seems like a reasonably priced, easy to use tool. Just wondering what those that have used one thought.
Do you have any experience with a ZEPP?

I got the Golfsense by Zepp last Christmas. I have over 1200 swings recorded and see it as an amazing device. Granted in a couple years we will be using something much more advanced. My first few sessions with it I proved to myself it gives consistant, accurate results. Testing different swing paths easily shows up in the results screen. Swing speed is low appr. 10%. However it is very consistently low, so if you make a change trying to increase speed, it shows up. If you buy into the "Tour Tempo" theory by John Novosel, Golfsense shows the ratio. It also gives you the ratio breakdown, backswing speed, then down to impact speed. I was getting a very consistant 3 to 1 ratio which is excellent. However I was very slow going back and slow coming thru. This resulted in a pretty straight drive that went nowhere. I am using Golfsense to increase my total swing speed. Every swing shows the numbers. When I swing faster in both directions with a 3 to 1 ratios, I am increasing my length. I would buy it again and highly recommend it.

I won the zepp in a golf tournament recently, and after a few uses, I think it's a great product. I have the swingbyte, and that is completely useless.
I like that you can compare your numbers with the pros numbers, and see where you're close and where you need to improve.
You can practice indoors and work on different moves due to the instant feedback from the app.
Does it compare to track an, flightscope etc? No, and to even think It would seems ridiculous to me.
But, it's good for what it does.

I have both. Swingbyte gives significantly more information than Zepp. Given that you have high quality video of your swing and Trackman numbers, there is really nothing new you will learn. The 3D swing plane info provided by both units is pretty cool, but if you have good video it is pretty easy to see if you are on plane or not. The swing speeds and tempo info on both units is pretty close to each other and the swing speed is consistent with personal swing radar units.

Given the data you already have and the fact you are taking lessons, you should have a pretty good handle on what you should be working on. If you think either can provide info that will help you improve what your teacher has you working on, than either might be a good purchase.

IMHO the swingbyte is far superior, assuming you can get the gizmo lined up and hooked on with consistency, largely because the amount of information is greater.

This was maybe the biggest factor of why I chose the skypro instead of the others, the skypro you don't have to line the device up you just calibrate it using your phone so you get an exact alignment every time. Also the skypro has a great way of attaching and does not slip like the others.

  • 1 month later...

After some research and some gift vouchers from Santa, I'm looking at getting either the Zepp or the SkyPro.

I'm leaning towards the Zepp as it has less of the arguably inaccurate info of other devices.
I do like how the Skypro attaches to the club and can be used with a putter.

I'd appreciate some feedback from users. In particular, would a low-ish handicap player with a decent swing get much long term benefit from these devices?

Thanks in advance.

I bought the swingsense (older version of Zepp), but basically the same off amazon on a lightning deal for $55, and have been pleased. It has recorded every shot, has not missed any, the sensor is on your glove and basically weightless, and a solid amount of data. I have hit around 1500 balls so far in my garage using it with the Ipad.

The 3D swing is cool, and lets you know if you are getting too far off plane, but the tempo feature has helped me the most. Almost every time I hit an off center shot, it is due to trying to get back to the ball to fast, starting with my hands. When I get in a grove with my tempo, just pure shots. This device is helping me be more consistent with my tempo IMO.

We will see if it translates to the course.

I am happy with my purchase.

What I dont like about the Zepp is that it attaches to your glove. Surly how you grip the club can impact on the data it reads?

I havent got any of these devices, but the Skypro is the one I would go for. It gives for me anyway the best info on the swing. I'm just waiting to find one at the right price.

Zepp calibrates on how you take your grip when you set it up.

Alrite thats fair enough, I couldn't find any info on this on their website. It does seem to get good write ups and is fairly priced. But for me there is not enough data points captured.

  • 4 weeks later...

I've had the Zepp for a couple weeks, which I'm closing in on a 1000 swings. My big problem has alwas been over the top which the Zepp shows good or bad. In the 2 weeks hitting balls at the golf dome and swinging at home I've improved my swing and ball striking a bunch. Can't wait to put it to use at a course in the spring. I think it's a great product for a golfer with a problem with tempo or swing path. For me it's been money well spent.

I got one for my birthday and like it, but it seems like it doesn't stay charged very long. I haven't tried it with the video feature yet but I have two hundred swings recorded and helped me with some swing flaws!
