Wilson Duo

Recommended Posts

We have had a couple of 50 degree days here and I played a round yesterday. I used a couple of Wilson Duo's that I got free the golf shop. I haven't swung a club in a couple of months so I didn't have a expectation of playing decent. Anyway I played the Duo and drove the ball straighter then anytime I can remember all of last year. Does anyone have any experience going from a harder ball like a TM TP or a PProv1x to a supposedly a softer core ball? It wasn't about distance as much as it was the lack of slice or hook.

I used to play TM TP Reds a few years back, but as I got older I found I wasn't compressing them as well, especially in the cold.
I switched to Wilson fg tours and hex chromes for a while, also Bridgestone RXs. Played with a Duo a few weeks ago and was impressed with how wel it held greens, at least with short irons. I'd like to see how the shot game performance is around the greens. Putts pretty nice.
Gonna give the new Chome Soft a try next week in San Diego, it seems promising, just needs to be cheaper!

I should really try this ball again. The first time I did I really wasn't a fan. I've read and heard nothing but good things and it's certainly cheap enough. When the snow melts up here (July) I'll give it another go.

I'm also hearing great things about the new Duo Spin. Slightly higher compression, I understand. I'm putting it on my list of balls to play when the weather finally allows. Local golf shop owner tried these while he was at the Orlando Show and loves them. He generally plays Bridgestone RXS.

The Duo Spin's compression is actually lower than last year's regular Duo (35 vs 40 FWIW), and the new regular Duo's compression is 29. And unofficially the Duo Spin was longer for me than the regular Duo, I got a chance to hit them a few weeks ago during a warn stretch. I have never looked forward to playing a new ball before, this is kind of new to me.

I like soft as much as the next guy, and have heard good things about the Duo, but I've tried sub 50 comp balls, while they're great as the weather is still 50ish, when it gets 75-80+, they all seem to turn to mush. My SS is about 80, and I would prob benefit from the Duo, but I try to find a ball around 70-80 comp, as it will maintain the distance that I know I can drive a ball. Brother-in-law went to GG last year, and the guy at the store raved about the Duo to him-he bought a box, practiced putting at home-kept telling me "its so soft, putts like a dream, can't wait to play". That's all I heard. Played well in the cooler temps-THEN the 80's came in, and was he crying about hitting 20-30 yds. behind his buddies. Went back to his Srixon Soft Feels(71-75 comp), distance came back, and his game. When the NXT's came out, they were the same way-but Titleist got them right over time. It is probably a great ball for someone that has a wicked slice, or a hard fade that they can't control, so control OVER distance, play the Duo. Will be looking at the Chrome Soft, Bridgestone E-6, and the Strata Tour this year. Looking for a soft, but reasonably priced three piece ball, that will compliment my game.
That is kind of what I am thinking, I had good luck with them when the temp was in the 50 ' s, but what is it going to do if it warms up. I was thinking about buying 10 boxes of them at $10 bucks a box but what kind of results will I get when it gets hot?

I play w/ the Duo, use to play Pro V1x, I hit the Duo lower than Pro V1x that is the only difference for me, prefer the feel of the Duo as well. Great ball for a great price!

Does anybody else hit these lower off the driver? I hit these considerably lower compared to a Pro V1x, I have no idea why?

I've played them for a few rounds this year, I've noticed that slices/pushes don't go as far right. They can take a beating from a tree I've found out. I read somewhere feel on the putter should be the most important factor and work backwards (wouldn't everyone play urethane then?) but these feel fine in all phases. I'll be interested to see if I notice shorter distance when it warms up. If so, what are others experiences with balls like project a, Bridgestone, etc.? Definitely prefer soft feel on the putter.

I just bought a box of Wilson Duos because of all the positive comments I've read, and I have to say I was not impressed.

It played ok, but didnt excel at anything in particular. My drives felt so short. I switched balls to the Q*Star without telling anyone, and everyone noticed the distance gain immediately. The ball is basically the same price and for me is much better.

I'd say Wilson's claim that swing speed doesn't matter is marketing.

I play Duos. Lent one to a friend while playing. he hit a day shot about 200 yards from the hole, shot went sl left but hit a pine tree 30 yards in front of him. The ball went all the way up the tree trunk, missing branches, came out the top of the tree and landed 10 feet behind him. After 10 minutes of serious laughing, I picked up the ball and not a mark. So for him the distance with this ball was suspect.
