I understand what you are saying. As for the other companies doing it, I really don't know. It would be interesting to weigh a set of Modus 120's to see what how they come out.

But one the other hand, when I buy shoes, I expect them to be 11.5. Not 11. Well 11.5 as the manufacturer sees it. I know an 11.5 will vary from manufacturer to another but an 11.5 should be the same with the one manufacturer. And if they said in their advertisement that our 11.5 will be close but if you want it an exact 11.5, pay extra, I guess I would have to.
Not saying that the AMTs are bad, I actually like them.
Measured a set of Modus 125, tolerance were within a gram (actually closer to half a gram). Crazy tight.
Nippon shafts are famous for really tight tolerances, their standard offerings are just as exact as TTs Tour Issue stuff.

Is anyone installing these in their wedges? I play the TI S400 currently and am wondering if I should match to the TI AMT's in my irons.

The DG AMT wedge shafts are the same as the DG shaft. ie same weight, which is what the AMT is about in having lower weight longer irons.

I had weight measured by my clubmaker in a set of KBS tour stiff 3-PW (nominal weight 120gr). Most of them were within 1% (1.2 gr) tolerance. Just a couple of them were outside that by very little. According to my Cmaker it was pretty tight compared to what he is used to see. I know this is not a large enough sample to draw up a general conclussion in one way or the other but just my experience. Glad that my set was pretty accurate.

The chart FW posted (Thanks FW) is actually for the 2 (40.5") iron through 9/W (37").

What makes the X100 lighter than the S400? AFAIK with the normal DG, the stepped sections of the X/S are identical, but the tip on the X is shorter > if anything, the X should be a touch heavier @ the same length. So misprint, design difference or result of weight sort procedure? I'd like to understand the difference in design (if any) between the lines/flexes.

I have a set of AMT X100 Tour Issue softstepped 1 X in my AP2's. Only 1 round under my belt and so far so good. Dynamic Gold feel, they feel GREAT!. I don't notice them feeling too much lighter overall in the long irons. I think the 3 iron shaft is 20+ grams lighter than std DG.

i would definitely agree that these feel a bit softer to flex than a standard DG X100 not a bad thing IMO.

If you soft step these, do they keep the weight of the shafts similarly (109g-130g) throughout 3-PW? Or will I get a 9 iron weighted shaft (127g) in the PW (instead of 130g)? Wondering how much spin/height that will make?
Just curious, as I currently have SSx1 TI X100 in my current set, but looking at these AMTs and thinking of going SSx1 as well.

They do not. Soft stepping will make each shaft 3 grams lighter than the original shaft weight in the line.

The 9 and pw are both the same weight in the amt.
Therefore, softstepping 1x will put the 8 iron shaft in both.

Not necessarily. Soft stepping the set will put the 8i shaft in the 9i but one can still use the 9/PW shaft for the PW. There is no right or wrong way, just two different possible ways to approach it.

Agree with this^

No person or company is going to take a bagged DG TI set and piece meal 8 iron shafts from another set.

SS would look like this: (3-P set): 3in4, 4in5, 5in6, 7in8, 8in9, 9/PinP, 9/PinG

Your wedges will still get "wedge" shafts if you order them SS

It seems that the longest shaft is 40 inch for 3 iron. Is there a 40.5 inch shaft for my soft-stepped 3 iron? I am using dynamic gold SL in 3 iron and want to change it to AMTs.

There IS a 40.5" AMT shaft available (per TT several pages back). It is designed for 2-iron use (thus 3-iron if soft-stepped). TT stated that a final decision for a 41" AMT shaft had not been decided (1-iron, soft-stepped 2-iron). Early versions of this shaft also came in at 36.5 inches, for a true wedge shaft or hard-stepped version of same. It's not clear if this will be available generally, special-order only for selected accounts, or if it has been scrapped completely.

Hope this helps,

B

I haven't built up my set of AMT X100s yet, but I was curious so I checked the frequency on them versus a set of standard X100s. The 37" shaft is exactly the same as the standard X100 version and then the AMTs get progressively softer as they get longer. This is butt frequency only though. It looks to me like the wall thickness in the tip is pretty similar between the 2 sets, so it looks to me that the weight is saved in the butt and mid sections to create the weight progression. Or maybe I'm wrong, could TT chime in on this one?

My plan is to build them straight in because of this instead of softstepping like my other sets.

I think they play a hair softer than std X100. I always played std X1's softstepped 1 X. My AMT's are SS 1X and I think they are a tad weaker which is fine with me. My guess is AMT straight in would be pretty damn close to std X1's SS 1X.

I don't think the walls would be thinner in the butt end that would mess with the balance point and the AMT are the same balance point as the std DG.

This mirrors my experience as well. Ordered AP2's with AMT X100 ss1x and they seem to play softer than normal X100 ss1x. Because of this I ordered a set of CB with TI AMT X 100 straight in. With this all said I do believe you adjust to shafts feel rather quickly and could definitely live with the soft stepped AMT's in my AP2's as I'm currently really enjoying how they perform.
Still waiting on my CB's-- ordered almost 4 weeks ago and looking foward to them battling out against the AP2's. The hold up has been an 8 iron shaft on the TI AMT's. Hoping they ship sometime next week as that's what I've been told.
