Perry Park Country club or Arrowhead?

I'm trying to put together a golf outing for some buddies who are coming in from out of state. I have played Arrowhead before but not Perry Park. Has anyone played both and can share experiences?

I have played both. I would go with Perry Park over Arrowhead. It is a harder course that is for sure. (Greens are tough..LOL) Arrowhead is also visual because of the red rocks and having a par 3 you hit from but course Vs course to me Perry Park is much better. Typically Perry Park is in better shape too...just depends on the time of year though.

Bear Dance is also a great course for the money if your looking at other options.

I'd recommend Bear Dance over Arrowhead unless you just want the Arrowhead experience. There are some spectacular views at Arrowhead, but the golf is much better at Bear Dance.

I'm from out-of-state myself and I have played all 3. My easy answer is a "tourist" should get the chance to play all 3. Having said that, I'd rank them in this order with "golf quality" (shot values, variety in routing, conditions, etc.) being the weightiest factor.

Bear Dance (great condition, super smooth fast greens, challenging)
Perry Park (a real "retreat", a lot of red rock formations, mule deer "interrupting play")
Arrowhead (visually stunning, "wow factor", not quite up to the other two in conditions)

These are all visually spectacular (way different than our courses in TX, LOL). Wow, very tough choice if you can only take them to one.

If you are from out of state play Arrowhead once for the views, but not the golf as it isn't all that great. Then play Bear Dance and The Ridge down south and call it good.

Out of state go to arrowhead. Cannot beat the views. The course is decent but the views more than make up for it. Love playing there. The only complaint I have about that place is no drivers on the driving range. Great course experience

Grew up on Perry Park, Did club repair for Arrowhead while in college and live close to Bear Dance. They are all great. If I had to choose one, I would go with Perry Park. It has the charm that Bear Dance is trying to create and the wow factor of Arrowhead.

IMHO, Arrowhead is quirky but fun. Many of the holes are forgettable, but some just blow your mind. Bear Dance is good, but you can get lost in the scenery (especially on the back 9) and it will take your focus away from a really demanding golf course. Perry Park is core golf at its best. It offers some good target golf holes and others where you can just let it all hang out. It will penalize you if you are not accurate and is a great test of your skill.
