since likely going to be a shotgun start, and we're all guaranteed playing from the same tees, anyone else besides me want to try 100% random pairings vs. "typical" groupings?

The pairings will be random.

That was planned previously. If people want to do their own side stuff, that's their call once groups are set.

Played at Penderbrook this afternoon, got around in a little over 3 hrs, which sounds good but actually had to endue a 2 hr back nine after blazing through the front in 1 hr 10 min with a twosome. Waited on every single shot and felt like a 5 hr round almost. It was gorgeous out, but pretty darn windy, which really messed with my head. As if I needed more mental challenges in golf. Also, this was one of those days when the course was pretty dried out, and actually decently fast by Penderbrook standards, so I was running every past because I'm so used to things being soggy and slow there.

The score, a +10 82, was actually better than I played, because I birdied 3 holes on the back nine which saved the card. Basically, struggled in the wind and short game was off. I came back with 27 putts, but that too is deceptive, because I had lots of second attempt up and downs. Sometimes even a third attempt. For example on the par 5, I hit a good drive and okay second, about 15 yards right of the green, pin high, and had a one-putt bogey to finish the hole. Hit it in the water or hazard 4 times, 3 of which were par 5s. Definitely still a struggle, but at least the score was respectable.

Highlights/low lights:

Par 3 5th - 200 yards straight into the wind, hit a full 19* hybrid solid, dead on line but about 20 floors up, came up 20 yards short. Bogey.

Par 4 6th - about 350 yards straight downwind, and if you carry it 250, there's a hard downslope, hit a 3W to 50 yards from the green. Scrambled for one-putt par after my low checker turns into a low runner.

Par 3 10th - 190 yards, right to left cross wind, hit a 6-iron that started 20 yards right, with a draw, and ended up 10 yards left of the green. Bogey.

Par 4 11th - another 300 yard par 4, narrow dogleg left, wind off the right, chickened out and hit a bunt cut 4-iron to 120, but got wise and hit a sawed off punch wedge to 15 feet. Par.

Par 4 12th - yet another short par 4, another sharp dogleg, knock down tee shot into fairway, thinned knock down wedge to 3 feet. Birdie.

Par 3 13th - 140 yards, over water, dead into the wind, wise man say knock it down. I hit sawed off 6-iron, yes, 6-iron, to 5 feet. Birdie. See a pattern here?

Par 3 16th - 190 yards (pictured above), cross wind from left, hit a full 6-iron that starts drawing at the pin but ends up 10 feet right of hole. Birdie.

Par 5 17th - 480ish, downhill, but into the wind. Somehow toe draw a 3W to 225 out, but per standard operating procedure, make another one-putt bogey.

Too many pissed away shots when sitting in Position A. Should be looking at pars and birdies, not scrambling for bogeys. I also seem to make lots of bogey and birdie putts, but miss all the par ones. That's frustrating. Not the most picturesque course, but will post a few pics later.

Btw, got up to the 7th and see this. Definitely not sand to spread in bunkers, but I thought of you guys. It was some sort of utility lines they were addressing.

Dang. I didn't realize that the Cobra drivers use a different size wrench than every other manufacturer. I've played Callaway, Titlelist, and TM using the same torque wrench for a couple years now. Any superfriends have an extra one?

pm me your address, I'll ship you one. Unless you want to meet near Arundel Mills and pick it up.

I went out and bought a T20 bit, so I'm covered for right now and will save you the shipping. I'm used to working with carbon fiber bike parts, so I at least vaguely know how much torque is needed. I actually have some other torque wrenches around, but no clue what the Cobra wrench is set to. I'll remind you (aka ask nicely) next time we get together though. Thanks!

Hit the ball where you can see it land and roll out to. There will a few shots where it looks like you can hit it over a bill or ridge, and a few of those times it will be a hazard or bunker etc

I feel like my driver swing from a year ago was better than now. FML.

[/media]

Can't wait for my lesson tomorrow.

i was not being sarcastic with my comment about talent. you have a smooth powerful swing.

your swing in this video is definitely better than what you posted earlier. i'm curious to know what the teacher changes or suggests. i can sort of point out things that i thing aren't great but i don't know what suggestion to make. for example in the DTL video pause it at ~32 seconds. your clubface is pointed to the sky. that's really closed. not many players have the clubface in that position at the top .... but Dustin Johnson does.

pause this at 1:44

a difference between you and DJ is that in the 32 second DTL pause your arms are really "flat" and he has super high hands (another is posture). so is changing that priority #1? if so, what's the suggestion? what's the drill to reinforce it? that's where the teacher is way way way better than some random on the internet. good luck tomorrow

I suspect he's a not-too-distant relative. Like, possibly a bastxxx son. Cobra can really grind that axe. Sweet pick sweeps and heavy riffage. Very Dime-like, tuned at 430 instead of 440hz. Rock on Cobra!

Thanks! I understand what you mean about my arms being flat. It is something I notice when watching my swing and comparing myself to others. I've never tried getting my hands higher. DJ also has a super bowed wrist to get his clubface pointed that way, but I never thought that I did.

Last night my Youtube hunt lead me to a video on Youtube from the "BE BETTER GOLF" channel with the GGSwingTips guy and he talked about people who had their armpits over their toes (which almost seems like me) can have issues with balance and can cause OOTP move.

But anywho, I guess we will see what the teacher has to say at 1!
