MD/VA/DC Golfers - Ten Seconds or Less

i'll say this: it's an odd feeling to be +1 through 16 holes and feel like you're playing terrible. never experienced anything quite like that before. i wonder if this is what it feels like when you are a really good golfer and you put up a stinker.

 

when i was driving home all i could think about was my missed putts and poor shots - weird to say i should/could have shot 1-2 more under?

 

i think that it's human golfer nature. i've always said that you gotta celebrate the good as hard as you beat yourself up over the bad. easy to say, harder to practice.

 

missed so many opportunities, kinda feel sick when i consider them in detail.

 

- 50 yards in on #2. hit it to 40 feet. gak.

- 100 yards in on #3. hit it to 30 feet.

- 20 footer straight up the hill on #4. 3 jack. smdh.

- 145 in on #5. fan a 9i down near the cart path. you stupid F.

- easy up and down opportunity from the front of the green of 8. nope. not. even. close.

- 147 in on #9 from the middle of the fairway. mishit followed by a 3 jackeroo. wonderful.

- 102 in on #10, couldn't keep it on the green. way to go champ.

- 100 in on 12, but i was standing in the left FW bunker. worried about a thinjob, i fluff it, then don't get up and down. i'm seething.

- 134 in on #16, catch a flyer and hit my PW 170 to the back fringe then 3 frutt from there.

- #18

 

 

the good stuff:

- nice lag on #2 to tap in distance

- sweet up and down to save par on #7 (on my 2nd attempt, was long left after tee shot)

- nice manufactured up and in on #10 when i was up against the collar of the rough

- sweet par save on #11 from 15 feet after flubbing my chip.

- finally made birdie on #14, getting up n in from the false front

- good par save on #15 after running my birdie putt 8 feet past like a dodo

- great par on #1 after nearly losing my ball and all the external distractions on the putting green

Two birdies? How is your handicap a 17? You seem to play really well!

 

It's a mystery wrapped in a conundrum. Really, though, there were too many brain-farty double bogies on the back 9. The 2 birdies were the highlights, but they were far overshadowed by many low lights. Here's my card.

10 was a 3i and 17 was a 58* wedge.

 

Technically, I may have gotten the fairway on 3, but I tend to believe that is really the 2nd fairway.

Little known fact. I found this ball on 16 and used it on 17 to commemorate the red tee challenge. Would have been nicer if I could have made birdie, but the thing had no spin - I hoisted a 56* way up and it still took a hop forward when it landed, like half a foot on the top of the shelf above the hole. If I had used an Eagle Bridgechode or TexChrome Soft, I bet it would have spun back down the slope closer to the hole.

Maybe the hat is an old favorite that he likes, with the sweat salt stain and smell like a dank car trunk, and he wanted to retain the option of re-enlarging it when his wavy locks grow back out, a la Eagle's new do. Or if he goes back to eating more 5 Guys burgers and donuts.

No comments yet on the cluster at the bar/grill yesterday. Took them 30+ mins to fry up 2 orders of wings and fries, and apparently they got all the burger orders out slow, and out of order too. Probably just weren't prepared for a one-time Thursday night flurry.

They seem pretty chill there, what do you think they would say about us bringing a grill of our own?

 

Probably slim to none though. But I wish more courses had the outdoor thing going, like how Qtown does their burgers and dogs at the turn.

gPow actually has an outdoor grilling area with grills. and outdoor picnic tables/seating. it's behind #2 tee, towards the entry road. there always used to be some tasty korean bbq happening right there on the weekends.

 

caveat: they used to have this anyways. not sure if it still exists.
