MD/VA/DC Golfers - Ten Seconds or Less

Like he said, I got out with PQ on Saturday. It was feeling magical for a while there. I hit the first 5 fairways and the first 7 greens. Then, hole 8, I was 100 out in 2 with a great look and almost doubled (in my defense, I had a pretty bad lie in the rough. It was punched and dreadful and the club bounced into the ball).

 

Then, I jacked one OB on 9, parred on the second ball. Started out par, par, bogey, par, then I hit 14 and 3-putted and then I hit 15 and parred. So things were pretty tight except for that OB. Then I finished bogey - bogey - double for a pretty ho-hum score off really good ball striking. Mixture of blues and blacks out there. Back on 13. I had to 4W, playing about 240. But, tees were up to blue on 3, 4, 7, 9, 15, 16, 17. It was actually a nice mix. I like playing blues much better on 16 and 17. They're basically like par 4.8's from the black tees for me.

 

PQ chipped in for bird on 9. He birdied 11. He had better looks than either of those on 1, 2, 5, 6, 14, and 15. Both of us in prime position on 12 and both came up short, so mis-reading wind or distance there.

 

Waverly is in GOOD shape. They've sanded the greens which took a little getting used to. They did "temperature plus $10" pricing, and they took $5 off for walking, so we ended up paying $39 each. It was 34ºF but it felt warmer. I think even Clifton this time of year is $30, so you can't beat that.

 

Great putt by Rahm on 18 yesterday. Good leader board. Rahm, Keegan and Howell were back up there, CT Pan (who?), Pat Perez, Finau is always fun to watch. This other young guy Rodgers (most winning golfer in Stanford history as they pointed out). It's not like this was a crud field either.

I haven't hit a ball, or even swung a club, since my last round in November, haven't even cleaned my clubs since then, but I did clean out the bag corner this weekend and might actually hit a few putts this week...

 

Because he's getting golf back on the brain. And, because puppet is da man.

 

Why would anybody turn on their Hive Fourball partner like this? Especially one that busted out an ill bucket hat, in a show of solidarity.

Because it's like he walked into an AA meeting with a beer in his hand and said "what's the big whoop?"

House hunting is stressful and exhausting. Property values are ridiculously high right now and people that haven't renovated their houses still think their houses are worth as much as new construction. Blah.

My pool starts this week as well and I dont think you can go with him. Rookie playing a home game, will be tons of family and fans out there - think there has to be a more "steady" pic. Cant afford to take a loss to start the year the way our pool is run.

Went to SkyZone in Gaithersburg yesterday. Kids had a blast, my BIL and I ended up spending about 30 minutes in one of the dodgeball courts trying to keep up with kids that were 12-15. Needless to say I feel like I was in a car accident today. My neck is the worst part, hurts to turn my head.

 

Any recommendations for treatment (I usually go Motrin and some Icy Hot but this feels like it's going to need something stronger)

You can only use each golfer once throughout the year, get awarded their prize money in points. If they miss the cut, its -350k, -500k in a major - I think, its around those numbers. Every 5 weeks is a segment ($$ awarded), end of the year pool $$ and a separate $$ for the majors. Seems like a cool setup, bunch of chances to cash.

I took a break from golf, still sort of am, but I'm at least working out with golf in mind now. More time on the rowing machine, pull-ups, core, etc. Also got the VSGA schedule for 2017 and starting to mark dates for the one day tournaments that I hope to play.

 

I hit about 20 putts last night with 6 different putters and felt comfortable with all of them, so that's a good start I guess.

BTW I like the new VSGA pace of play rules for the one day schedule. If your group finishes more than 30 minutes back, you're out. 30 minutes is generous too I think. But at least they are addressing it.

Charles Howell III's career fascinates me. He has only won twice (and I understand winning once on the PGA tour is extremely hard) but has made over $30 million in his career. He has never been on a Ryder Cup team (he has been on 2 Presidents Cup teams but not since 2007). I just find it surprising that he is so consistently average to good without having spells of great or bad.

 

 

 

I have always been a fan of his. Even more so now since hearing him on the No Laying Up pods he has done. I hope he makes it back into the winner's circle this year.

 

Oh, Wikipedia says that he had a down year in 2006. He made $1.5 million! Sign me up for that down year.

I'd go with whatever order puts them oldest to youngest, with DJ maybe bumped more towards the top of the list since he's been out there a while and winning what seems like more frequently than the others.

I don't know how long they've been doing this, but I like that they've spelled this one out explicitly:

 

Drop your fellow-competitor off at his/her ball with sufficient clubs, and then ride to

your ball to play your shot. This is another way to eliminate any “down time” and

allows you to make use of the time that your fellow-competitors are playing their shots.

 

None of this sitting around until it's your turn crap.

ha ha, no not in trouble. well, i was at the time, but not from the wife, more from the impending sense of doom from the inevitable surge of reverse peristalsis (which never actually happened).

 

i should never drink cokes after 9pm, especially if i am planning on tying one on with the boys. went to black olive in b'more on saturday night, which turned into sunday am in a flash. their lamb shank was friggin delicious, too bad i only got a sample taste. like a dummy, i ordered the crab cakes instead. they were good, but not lamb shank good. we all shared a bottle of glenlivet12 which went down smooth, like most speysides. A+ evening, would bang again.
