MD/VA/DC Golfers - Ten Seconds or Less

GTM: Yes, probably.

Lowest score was a 76 at this 9 hole track in NJ that I went around twice. It was immediately after a lesson where everything just clicked. No lost balls, a bunch of greens in reg, nothing worse than a bogie. Granted, it was a super easy course, but I played really well. I don't know what the differential was, and I might have put up better differentials at other courses because this place was so short, but whatever. I still consider it my best round.

biggest improvement for boogs recently has been his approach to chipping/pitching. really turning that weakness around.

I owe the chipping/pitching improvement to you. I added one other setup adjustment but I've exponentially improved since.

As a matter of fact, I'll consider action for people who want to set a target score for the year. Maybe we call it during Maryland handicap season.

I would like to make a bet on myself that I break par at some point this calendar year. We can discuss specifics, but if anyone would like that action please let me know.

#shinynewacl

Break par for 18 holes, from NOT the forward tees?

Sure.

Norbeck: Has to be at least the whites

EPP: Has to be at least the whites

Any other courses from at least one set back from the shortest.

Still not sure if this is a trick, or domes feeling good after some bedroom shiggles last night.

Either way, I'm in it for $10. $10 I'll happily pay out if you git 'er done.

Sheeeeiiiit, I'll happily pay $10/buy rounds for anyone here that breaks par in a legitimate round. Thats absolutely worth it for something like that to happen.

Yeah I'd do the same.

That's not what I wanted to turn this into....nevermind. I don't want to get rewarded with cash from internet friends....kind of weird.

In my head it was a way better idea than it turned out to be.

Anyone breaks par I'm buying drinks.

Domes - Let's simultaneously break par at the Beck and then go into the bar and get really drunk for "free". I can't think of a much better day than that.

GTM: Best round was an 81, twice. Once at Piney Branch Golf Club three years ago, and once at a course called Riverview near Bethlehem, PA about four years ago. A couple of 83's since. I should break 80 this year (but I say that every year for the last five). Personal goal is 75.

Definitely in for $10 on the skins side.

Par chasers. . .

Playing it down?

Putting it out?

Here's some advice from me chasing this for a few years now.

Always putt out EARLY in rounds. That way if you're in danger of breaking par, you don't look back and go, "Ah, I feel a little bad about this one because I picked up that 3 footer on 2." (sort of like when I missed that shorty on 10 at PB Dye. I was like 3 over at the time. Didn't realize I'd make 4 birds coming in).

Also, it's never NOT in play until you get like 5 or 6 over. You make a double early, and then a bogey, don't think you can't play -3 over the final 11 holes. If you're in the zone, you can do that. You'll probably have to. For example, I wasn't thinking about it Saturday at all. I bogeyed the 1st, turned at +3 and then went back to back tweeters on 11 and 12, and I started thinking, "Oh, man, I got those two easy par 5's and the 17th. this might be in play".(FTR, we weren't playing it down, which brings me to my next point. . .)

Play it down as often as possible, unless you think breaking par NOT playing it down is the same thing. If so, good for you, Snowflake, but City ain't buying you a beer.

For me, it's a great goal (just like other milestones) and the more often you flirt with it, the more comfortable you get, and the better golfer you'll be.

domes - the 'carlton dancing gif' was my way of accepting the bet.

i know you don't want to do this now, but nerf actually has the best idea on this. anyone who wants in on this puts into a pot. at the end of the handicap year, that amount gets divided up between people who have broken par. multiple under-par rounds are immaterial. you either broke par, or you didn't. if no one breaks par from the group, it gets rolled over till next year, and buy-ins are re-upped.

i'm in for $20, anyone else?

I'm not sure what I should be shooting for. Par is asking too much, but just breaking 80 isn't enough. So maybe 75? I probably overestimate my potential, so I'm not sure whats fair.

75 I guess works

I had a couple of buddies that tracked their birdies all year long. First to 100 won coffee for a week or something. They posted back and forth on facebook. Was comical, but pretty cool idea too. Both played 3 times a week or so, but not in the same circle of guys or even at the same course. I remember it being close, like the loser was a 91 when the other guy hit. If a couple of you guys wanted something else to keep your interest...

GTM: yes

GTMTerp: No

Many moons ago (2010-2011) if I was not at even par or below, I wasn't happy. I played daily, sometimes multiple rounds daily. I bet I averaged 8-9 rounds a week. Got into playing with some really good golfers and my game just took off.

Favorite round ever was one of my lower rounds, but not lowest. Played Kilmarlic in OBX with my dad. I couldn't miss and he played well, it was just an awesome day in memory. 69 that round and followed it up the next day with a 70 at the same course.

Favorite ever golf experience (9holes). Had an older guy at the course I was working for in Lexington pay my way into the big wig men's league. Shot 34 with an opening hole double on par 36. Won a bunch of money and basically a job. The round was awesome. Old dude got drunk and was all hyped about how well I was playing. Pissed off a roomful of guys I did not know which later became regular golf partners. Good day, excellent memories. (same story as most ever won playing golf)

That's around my target nowadays too. The 77 last summer felt awesome given it was tournament conditions, but it included 2 doubles.
