TM Superquad Rip-Off

Is it Genuine

This is a TM Superquad TP first edition that I got recently , I'm not sure it authentic so, I thought I would post a couple of pictures to see if anyone here could give some insight. Called TM customer Service but they were not much help The hosel has a serial number beginning with GBB then five additional numbers and letters. The club has two stickers on the shaft in Japanese So I know its an import, but even that I'm not sure what exactly the difference is. ANy help would be appreciated

I sent Taylor Made an email from their Customer Service page on their website (www.taylormadegolf.com). They responded within an hour or two that my first Superquad was "not authentic" but my second purchase was. The guy's name was Brent. Hope this helps..

MD... Can you tell the difference between the knock off and the genuine from just looking at the two? perhaps a picture of each so no one else gets ripped off! BTW... I will never buy a "name brand" club off e-bay ever again, since they care more about the sellers, (all be it that they are crooks) than people who get swindled.

I've been to a couple of the local pro shops here in NH and interestingly enough I got a couple of different answers. One said that he thought that the club was authentic and probably was from Japan. Then I went to another that didn't carry the TP and he doubted it was authentic.. now I must admit that I told him that I bought the club on e-bay before he checked it out so I kinda want to discount his reaction that and I think he was selling washing machines at Sears less than a month ago! Anyway I've tried to talk to Taylor Made and got very little response, they were not able to help me in that they said that if the club was from Japan that they wouldn't be able to verify without me sending them the club. OBTW they couldn't gurantee that they would return it, so I'll certainly pass on that option. I'm going to post some better pictures and see what everyone thinks. I have a second TP (Yes I bought two, so I'm eather a Genius or twice as stupid along with a R7 460 that may aslo be a knockoff as well).

It's going to be very hard to determine if it's authentic by photos alone. The fake one I purchased had a serial number that began with the letters TA. a few numbers and more letters.. The first thing that caught my attention was the ferrule did not fit neatly over the hosel. It had never been turned down so it was larger than the hosel -- a clubmakers no no...

they are so good at faking these clubs now, its unbelievable.

 

I think it doesnt matter if there is a serial number because if they fake the club then the are probably going to use the serial number too? they have these fakes done to paint shade which is unreal...not the same in terms of quality though.

 

its getting so hard to tell nowadays.

As stated on another post on this site, I guess the Taylormade factory make molds untill they are 100% perfect. The ones that aren't perfect are sold, and waalla, you've got some damn good fakes! Freakin unbelievable what goes on overseas!

I just got done talking with a guy who ones a golf club company, and he said that TM has to cut the head in half no a days to find the code inside because the fake are that good! The SQ are a joke with all the fake 1st Ed out there....TMBob

If you go to TM's website they have an option for Japan. Did they also release a 1st Edition in Japan? I know everyone seems to drool about Japanese Made Tour Heads and Irons. If it has a Japanese sticker on it is this a possibility?

So, if I understand the the question correctly, you want to know if you were a good shopper? I have the answer: &*^% no! Why don't you just order from a reputable local store or course. You would have been guaranteed a quality product or had a means to rectify the situation if something was wrong.

 

How much money is your time worth? You've spent more time shopping for a "value" and trying to discover if your product is real or not than you would have spent purchasing the "real" product, paying the tax and sleeping well at night

sorry to say but that superquad appears to be fake...i've seen a couple of those come in the store to be verified if it's real or fake and the shaft it comes with is not the tp shaft or the shaft that they have for the japan version tp...take out the weights and weigh them individually...i tested the weights the fake ones had and they were off...the 12 gram weights were 10-14 grams and the 2 gram weights were 1-4 grams...the people who made the head and shaft is really talented at making a knockoff...they even made fake japanese stickers and fake hologram stickers...

Take all the weights out and shine a small torch through one of the ports at the face. Look through the opposite port and you should see two things if it's original - 1) a milled circle on the centre of the face (this I believe is the driver version of the TM inverted cone technology) and 2) on the base there should be a large font part number (looks almost like it is welded on). If a counterfitter has gone to the lengths of adding both these things then the fake is probably so damn good that there won't be much difference from the real thing.
