804 versus 757 Golfwrx Ryder Cup

This past Saturday we had a Golfwrx outing for any member and guests out at Viniterra and it was a blast!!! From this outing the idea of putting together an annual 804 (Richmond) versus 757 (Va Beach) Ryder Cup type golf outing came alive. So here's where the planning stands:

 

1) Inaugural Team Captains: 804 Frankenputts and 757 TeeJ

 

2) Co-tournament Chair: 804 vthokim and 757 TBD (if anyone is interested in volunteering from the 757 please respond to this thread). What I see happening in this role is setting the tournament format and rules. Very important to have 1 rep from each team.

 

3) Members interested in playing:

 

804: Frankenputts, BigL, Mr. Larson, Pgood, Hot Rod 71, vthokim

 

757: TeeJ, Aviador Naval, drvrwdge

 

Next steps in order:

 

1) Dates: Team Captains need to pick a couple of dates that works for them. Can't have an event without the captains!

 

2) Location/Cost: Once the date is set we should be able to confirm the location and cost. If I'm not mistaken we're talking about doing this inaugural event at Bay Creek as a 1 day 36 hole affair with the 757 hosting.

 

3) Confirm Teams: The role of the team captains will be very important here to make sure the people saying they are interested are locked in for each team.

 

4) Establish the rules and format

 

5) Let the friendly trash talking begin!!!

I know it's a little ways off but I would plan for early fall. Course will be in the best shape, weather should be good and rates cheaper.

Group rates never hurt... Any strings that can be pulled would be greatly appreciated by all! Plus if we did 36 in one day, replay rounds are typically a lot cheaper.

I'm also thinking we should get a trophy that the winning captain gets to keep for the year. Any ideas on a creative name for this event? Commonwealth Cup?

As long as I have advance notice I'd definitely be in for the 757 boys. That would probably make me the D player but behind a bunch of scratch golfers I dont mind taking a backseat.

I'm in. I agree with the fall. The way the weather is around here it'll be nice into late October early November. Also my schedule doesn't really free up until after October 7th. I def. am cool with being the captain for the 757. We doing 8-man teams? Once whoever is going to get the location and date gets it set up I'll make a solid team roster. Until then just shoot me a PM 757 guys if you want to represent.

If we do it in the fall (which I'm fine with) we need to keep DST in consideration, especially if we are doing 36 holes in one day.

DST ends Oct 31/Nov 1 this year and the days get shorter and shorter the closer we get to that date.

I would definitely say before DST. SEPT/OCT time frame. Late Oct and November weather can be dicey...

3 of the 4 weekends in Oct are out for me already for weddings. September 18-20th I'm at Bama Ole Miss game it I'm open any other weekends then.
