Who's your favorite artist

Hey Guys,

Dont know how many country music fans we have in here, but i'm one. LOL

Checking to see who's everyones favorite artists. I'll go first

Artist - Brad Paisley

But my pick is an alternative country singer/songwriter:

I like older George Strait and Alan Jackson.

Son Volt's a great choice, very very chill music. Uncle Tuepelo is another Jay Farrar band that's worth checking out of you like Son Volt, as is Wilco from Jeff Tweedy.

 

I'm in no shape or form a fan of mainstream country, most of the stuff out there isn't even country IMHO. Neglecting the obvious Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, Kris Kristofferson, etc.

 

I do however, love local Texas Country and many of the artists coming out of the Red Dirt Scene between Dallas and Oklahoma.

 

Some of my favorite singer songwriters, Robert Earl Keen, Steve Earle, Bruce Robison, Kelly Willis, Jerry Jeff Walker. Those four may be the best songwriters you've heard but never heard of.

 

Some others in no particular order: Wade Bowen, Stoney LaRue, Cross Canadian Ragweed, Jack Ingram (before he sold out), Cory Morrow (before he sold out), Pat Green (before he sold out), Bob Childers, Terry Allan, Larry Joe Taylor, Tommy Alverson, Gary P. Nunn.

What about Garth Brooks back in the good ol days with his songs like friends in low places

Not really a country fan but I do like Garth Brooks but then again, I'm not sure what is considered country anymore. I like the Allman Brothers, are they considered country or country rock, and is there a difference? Some real early stuff by Tim Magraw was pretty funny, good too.

A few others worth checking into are some of the earlier Wilco stuff like the A.M/Being There albums. Of course anything by Ryan Adams, Jacksonville City Nights is a newer album by Ryan that has a very country sound, also he sang for a great alt. country group years back called Whiskeytown.

Have to say I am a pretty big country music fan but I tend to enjoy almost all music from rock to rap. To stay on topic though my favorite country artist would have to be Hank Williams Jr. and his best song (IMHO) is "A Country Boy Can Survive".

I am from New England....and to be honest I don't remember having a country station on the radio. So I really did not hear my first country song until my roomate in college, who was from texas, forced me to listen to the country station on the drive to school. Needless to say I actually liked it!!!!!

 

Country music is ok, not my favorite, but entertaining nevertheless.

Ah yes Robert Earl Keen, Steve Earle and Jerry Jeff Walker are great in my book. I even have vinyl of Jerry Jeff.

 

Toby Keith and his "I'll Never Smoke Weed with Willie Again" is classic.

My family and I saw Brad Paisley in Dallas this weekend. The opening acts were Kellie Pickler, Taylor Swift and Jack Ingram. Brad put on a great concert and really knows how to play to a crowd.

 

Taylor Swift has serious talent and is up for the Academy of Country's Music top new female artist. I did not know much about her, but my daughter had been going on and on about how good she is and after seeing her Saturday night I have to say I am convinced. I have already told my daughter I need her Taylor Swift CDs to load on my iPod.

I agree, she has a great voice and tremendous talent. My wife saw her at a local concert a few years ago (she is from our area) and has been following her ever since. We have the luxury of one of the top country radio stations on the east coast and they have been promoting the heck out of her for years now. My wife and I are going to see the Kenny Chesney Flip Flop Summer Tour and Keith Urban this summer so far. I listen to just about all country and right now I have some Van Zandt and Garth Brooks playing on the iPod.
