It has to be said. The larger, wider brim of a flat bill does shade your eyes more than a regular ball cap. More a like the large visors. They're pretty effective on bright days.

But, as always, I enjoy the irony of reading fashion tips from golfers.

Curving your bill shades your eyes much better as it will block sun from the top and from getting in the sides. I don't believe for a minute that a flat bill would shade more than a curved one.

Dead wrong. There are differences of opinion, which most can tolerate, but this is just clear misconception on your behalf.

Sun can come to your eyes from the side too. It's not an opinion. The sun is not always at 12 oclock high. Anything off of 12 oclock and you have sun coming in to your eyes from the side. Especially in a golf swing where you are standing sideways to the target looking down at a ball. If the sun is shining straight at you from the pin then the bent bill will help better than flat. Not sure how the angle of the sun is just an opinion.

Wider, flatter brim will stop more sun than a curved one. The lowest portion of the brim is in the same vertical location (slightly higher than ears..)
Put a piece of paper flat on the table...lift up the middle of it to represent a curved brim. The corners are still in the table, but the paper is now narrower. If you can't see the advantage to a wider, flatter brim I feel for you. If that experiment didn't work, just picture nearly every other style of hat and try to find one with a brim section that apexes at the top of your forehead and curves downwards...at the end of the day this is the silliest argument but failing to see the logic behind it is ignorant.

I am speaking from personal experience. I think you are totally overthinking this though. Calling someone ignorant bc they don't think a flat billed hat is as useful as a bent bill is silly. Your logic, to me, is only useful if the sun is directly above you. If it is at any other point where it shines from the side then a flat bill simply isn't doing as much as you think.

Why is it when someone disagrees with another's opinion......one must be "ignorant?" The only real ignorance in that is labeling someone else's opinion such.

Not much more to say. He looks like someone's dad that is trying too hard to be hip. I don't like it.

No One looks cool in a flat brim baseball hat. Not Ricky or Bieber Jimmy Page, Holly Sonders, Ron Jeremy.....No One!! Also that goofy style hat (painter/military?) that Ryan Moore, Villegas, and Ricky Barnes wear is ridiculous....not even the Dos Equis guy would look cool in these hats. Only one guy in the world looks cool in a bucket hat....Jim Colbert, baby!

Not ignorant as in rude, but ignorant as in lacking knowledge about something in particular.
In this case, the misconception that a curved surface will block more sun than a flat surface (having the same area and set at the same "height" relative to the protected object). The orientation to the sun is irrelevant. If it'll help, think of an awning or sunshade over a window on a home or RV, same principle. Wide & flat, not narrow & curved.

This is not a matter of opinion, it is a matter of fact. To overlook that is ignorant.

My last words: I wear my hats with a very subtle curve to allow the brim to provide maximum protection w/o looking & feeling awkward (as it would if it were perfectly straight).
[/quote]

Not only that, but it allows you to wear sunglasses while still pulling the bill down to the point that it's most effective.

The irony of the flat bill argument is comical. The curved bill guys ridicule the flat bill guys because they're "trying to hard" when, in reality, the flat bill is much more effective and even more so with sunglasses. So, it's really the curved bill guys that are sacrificing function because they wish to look a certain way.

Same deal with those funny little small visors that people wear all the time.

P.S. I advocate a slight curve.
