Tried lots of Driver Combo's but no difference?!?

The last year or so I have tried many different driver/shaft combinations...different lofts, different flexes, different trajectories....and they all end up the same distance! Is my swing such that "it is what it is" and there is no way of gaining the elusive extra yards? Is this normal? I have always been able to hit fairways, I just want more yards, is that so much to ask for?!?

have you been fit, or have you just been picking up different drivers and trying them yourself?

no sir, Im the fool who just tries things on his own and picks up driver combos as if I'm in a buffet line. How much does fitting cost generally? Might talk my wife and kids into doing that for me for father's day. Also is it better to do this in "big name" chain or just in the local proshop that's been here for years?

Fittings can range in price (generally $49 and up for a decent one) and are generally subtracted from any driver combo you purchase.

Also, I would recommend using a fitter where you can see the actual ballflight. Hitting into a net alone just doesn't do it for me. I need the visual reinforcement to ensure I'm happy with the results.

Good luck, it's worth the investment!

How far do you hit it now?

90% of your distance is going to be about your swing speed and subsequently your ball speed. If you have a swing speed of 100 and a ball speed of 150 no driver/shaft combo is going to make you hit it 300 yards.

I'm a tinkerer too but I have accepted that at my swing speed there IS a max I'm going to be able to hit any driver.

Best of luck in any case.

Good Point - I grew up being a fairways and greens guy and then came the grip it and rip it and now the bomb it and hack it out to the green generation but I will lcertainly look into the fitting and golf ball options.

P.S. never thought really thought about the golf ball thing but will now

Drivers for me I guess are like my marriages, I keep trying till I find the right one

if you're pretty bent on finding some extra distance, maybe practicing with a weighted club with help with your length.

i have a momentus power hitter that i take out at the beginning of the golf season. i use it for probably two or three weeks and i'm back to normal.

you may find that it generates more distance for you.

i would bet pretty solid odds that you'd benefit from a driver fitting and a weighted club.

I know how you feel, i have a similar feeling about all the drivers i have, i hit them all about the same, all different shafts heads, lofts, combos, they all tend to be about the same, which is not a bad thing, i am not struggling with a driver, but they all seem to be just like the one before , it all comes down to me each day.

I either hit it or i don't.

Most drivers are at the maximum for COR now, so the best you can do is get the right one via a fitting, or more consistently hit your maximum via MOI and forgiveness.

The only other way to get increased length is via a longer shaft. The tradeoff there is accuracy.

everyone can definitely improve on their mechanics, i'm sure there's a lot of wasted energy in most amateur's swings.

there's always the gym! no doubt golf-specific exercise may help too.

One word. Roids.....Steroids.

LOL

Seriously, first thing i would look at is conditioning and strength. Sometimes its the indian and not the arrow. Fitting to max out your particular swing characteristics is also a huge step. Also, getting a ball that fits what you need in order to max your lauch conditions will also help. With these things, they could give you those extra yards your looking for.
