Stolen Clubs

Left clubs on the range
To make a long story short I left my 52* vokey and studio stainless scotty on the practice green this past Tuesday after a quick lunch short game session and didn’t realize it until today so when I called the pro shop and asked if anyone had turned them in they hadn’t seen anything. I do know it is my fault for leaving the clubs in the first place but the nerve of someone to actually keep the clubs and not turn them in what do they think they the owner wouldn’t find them missing and wouldn’t go looking for them. If I’ve kept every club I found on the course I would have a room full of random clubs. Well I am exaggerating but it just seems like a low person to do this.

Maybe this goes back to the “Has Tiger ruined golf†thread. I know it’s not Tiger but maybe some of the people who took up the game just because they’ve seen him on TV and they don’t understand the common courtesy things about the game like if you find a club turn it into the club house.

I just wanted to rant a little bit and see if this had happened to anyone else before.

Sorry to hear about the missing/stolen clubs. I've learned to keep an eye out for my clubs and friends, NO MATTER where I am or if there is a starter/bag 'boy' near by.

As to the "Has Tiger ruined golf", people just need to drop this mentality, sorry, but stop blaming someone for playing the game and succeeding. It could have been someone working at the club that walked off with it, noone knows other than the person who did.

And no, I have not had any of my gear stolen. Again, I'm sorry to hear that this does happen, but we do live in the world of 'opportunity' :(

Ehh, could go either way. It really depends on the person and their needs. Someone that already has a nice putter probably wouldn't keep it. However, if I am playing a crap-tastic putter, the thought might be there.

When I was on my honeymoon, I accidentally left my $200 Ray-Bans sitting on the edge of the pool. I finally remember 20 minutes later, and of course they were gone. I don't blame anyone but myself for leaving them there. I asked at the desk to see if there were there, but of course they weren't because they were $200 sunglasses.

The lesson has been learned, and now I never spend more than $20 on sunglasses because I have been careless in the past, and it hurt.

I've left my wedges on the course before but I guess I've been lucky..I have an address label on my wedges and short irons and someone must have had a conscience because they were turned into the clubhouse when it finally dawned on me that I had left them...

I've found clubs before and always track the owners down if they are still on the course or turn them in...

I would hope others would understand this "universal" courtesy and keep this value system intact...

Thanks to the "unknown" parties in the past who were honest and turned in my clubs...you don't know how much I appreciated that! :(

... let's be real. if u found vokey and studio design scotty on the course, would u return it? First I will try to find the owner, and if unsuccessful, instead of returning to club house, I will probably keep it.... don't rant me I'm just being honest here...

:russian_roulette: Is it yours? Did you buy it? Turn it in!! Somebody spent hard earned money for it and he's going to come looking for it.

If I found my stolen clubs in someone else's bag, I would snap every :( club over my knee and toss them on the concrete.

This game, and life in general for that matter, has no place for people like that.

What scares me here is how many guys say they would consider keeping it? Obviously the friggen owner of the clubs wants them back... it's stealing plain and simple not to turn them in. I know as a kid my daddy taught me it was wrong to steal... he also taught me it's A-OK to knock someone the F-out who steals from you. :(

That's too bad. Three years ago I left a 56* Vokey and an Eye 2 8 iron on the range. I didn't realize until the following day they were gone. I went back to the range and thankfully someone was nice enough to return them.

I can understand your frustration. Maybe 10 or so years ago the odds of the clubs being returned would have been greater. The cases of club theft have gone through the roof in the past few years. And not returning clubs to keep them is theft, plain and simple.

First thing to do before you leave the club is to count the # of clubs in your bag. If you only bring 2 clubs to work on a piece of your game it should be even easier.

I might be paranoid about things, but I'm always tapping on the wallet pocket of my pants and making sure I have my keys...I'm similar with my clubs.

I think the conscience thing works a little differently depending on the situation.

Someone leaves a 7 iron on the green that is a blade and you're hitting cavity backs, you're going to turn it in. New or mint Vokey or Scotty, the temptation is definitely there. Not saying I'd keep it, but I'd have both ends of my conscience pulling at me.

I recently left a 2004 RAC CB x100 shafted 8 iron around a green and noticed it later in the evening, since I quit after an early-evening 9 holes. I called the next morning early, and kept after it for about 2 weeks-- of course, it didn't turn up. That club would have been NO USE to anyone, but the replacement sure cost me some $.

You guys that say you would keep a club that isn't yours are pathetic. There is NOTHING okay about that position.

yep..lost a BeCu Tom Watson wedge back in the day when they were worth something and a MR23 Maru wedge a couple years ago... neither ever showed. On the otherhand I have found about 20 clubs and always turned them in.

Woods : Callaway Razr TA, Titleist F3-05
Hybrid : Adams LSP XTD
Irons : Fourteen TC910 3&4I, Nike VRProCombo 5-PW
Wedges : Fourteen RM-11 54/60

Just me thinkin' out loud here...

...but wouldn't it be cool/funny if there was a version of Dateline NBC's 'To Catch a Predator' for people who steal golf equipment!?

I think I'll call it... 'To Catch a C*cks@cker'! :smilie_nike:

Think about it.....

expensive clubs left as bait for unknowing thieves.....

half a dozen hidden cameras capturing every moment.....

confronting the assailants as they attempt to make away with the goods without turning them in.....

cops standing by to make the arrests..... :russian_roulette: :(

There would, of course be a reward for the honest ones. That reward would be to have your friends and family watching the telecast on national TV see how honest YOU are for not falling for the bait!

Theft sucks, theres no 2ways about it. This little idea of mine (fictional, of course) would be a great way to strike back!!

...now who would we have hosting such a show?? :smilie_nike:
