Eurasia Cup

I know some aren't bothered but Europe won the Eurasia Cup in an emphatic fashion 18.5-5.5 Some new faces on the team that will be close to the Ryder Cup squad. Darren Clarke captained and the new guys performed very well. Not sure if it got much coverage in America but the bad news is that we have some real talent coming through and playing well!

Yes, Golf Channel here in the U.S. showed the entire competition, and I caught some of it.

 

Notably, eight members of the European team were of the GB&I variety, which I thought was kind of cool.

 

In the end, the Asian team really did not mount much of a challenge, but the commentators rightly acknowledged the embryonic nature of Asian golf as a global force.

Was about as comfortable a win as you could imagine for the European Team which wasn't exactly the strongest either.

 

Some good vibes going forward for a couple of guys likely to make the Ryder Cup debuts in the autumn. Danny Willet & Shane Lowry will almost certainly be at Hazeltine and given the middling at best play from the likes of Poulter, Westwood and McDowell we'll need some fresh legs to replace big name players like that if they don't improve.

Darren Clarke's two wild cards were interesting: Westwood and Poulter. That could be a sign he's willing to back them for the Ryder Cup as well, and they both came away with the maximum three points.

I hope we'll be seeing Matthew FitzPatrick at Hazeltine.

Are players on the USPGA Tour not allowed to compete, even if they're Asian/European? I wasn't sure, but I did notice that all the European players played on the European Tour and not USPGA tour (I think Poulter has a European Tour card; I know Westwood got his back recently). Is the Japan Tour allowed, or does Katayama have an Asian Tour card as well?

You would think that the Asians would do better-but we all remember how ugly the ryder cup was and how poorly most of the asians (and americans) played. Once Mcilroy, Lingmerth, Molinari, Stenson, Rose, Kaymer, Garcia, Donald, Mcdowell and some others I can't name of the top of my head join this team at the ryder cup, I hate to say it-but we're toast :(
