Does Uniqlo realize that they sponsor Adam Scott?

This brand will explode for golf soon I feel. Their pants and polos are hard to match for the price. Great quality !

Β

Any input as to the fit of the polos? Maybe compared to travis mathew

Β

The polos are somewhat a different fit. Slimmer through the arms but a regular fit through the chest. If you wear a L with Travis Matthew I would stick with that in Uniqlo if you dont mind a tighter arm

agree mlien that the fit is a bit different. for me, i wear a medium travis mathew but needed a large with uniqlo. i'd say the uniqlo in L fits just a tiny bit larger than TM in M.

I liked the gray shirt he had on with the black color on Saturday I can't find. Anybody got any ideas?

Β

It's grey with a navy blue collar. I bought one last summer in store. I do t think they'll start carrying the polos til the spring.

I'm not one for huge logos, but would be cool if they had something small maybe on the chest or sleeve.

Β

That is a bit contrary to their brand. They're like the Gap of Asia. I do have one performance polo that has a tiny self-coloured logo embroidered on the sleeve, but you would never notice it in real life.

I own one Uniqlo button-down collar polo. I simply found the Uniqlo logo online as a vector file, took it to an signs/embroidery shop, and had them silkscreen a logo onto the shirt. No sweat. Looks perfect.

Odd fit for me. 6ft, 185, and large is too small on me. Too short to tuck in and not wide enough in the shoulders. Must be cut for the Asian market. I'll bet Adam's are tailored for him. If you're a thin, shorter person, they may fit you.

Β

Material and price are nice, though.

Does sound like you got an Asia sizing shirt - I'm about 6ft and 190lbs, and wear XL shirts from Uniqlo, Bangkok - it's the largest size they do (!).

Β

There is no logo because that's part of their brand - none of their clothing has an external logo, I prefer it that way - there's plenty of choices elsewhere if you prefer logos on your clothing.

Β

The 'non brand' brand Muji goes a step further, and has no logo or brand identification on the outside or inside of clothing or anywhere on any of their products...

I didn't realise Muji has shops in the US, but apparently you do have a few...

Odd fit for me as well. I am a bigger guy (6'1", 240; 46 shoulder, 36 waist), and decided to go XXL in some button down collar polos a year or so back. Nice shirts, but the midsection was HUGE (as expected for XXL) and the sleeve lengths were SO short. Very odd fit that I never felt comfortable in. They were quality shirts for the price, but I rarely wore them due to the fit. Of course, I am built like a Shrek, so most others likely wouldn't have the same problem.

Uniqlo is a billion dollar retailer. Do you honestly think that their priority is to update their homepage with a message when Adam Scott wins a non-major tournament in America? Its an international company with a very small percentage of sales in the US, with an even smaller percentage than that being golf apparel. I hate to admit it but the world does not revolve around the latest golf fashions and who wore what when they were seen on TV. The sports apparel companies can do this because that is their livelihood. The larger clothing retailers, not so much.

Β

This section has always featured Adam and is in their men's "featured" section. Pretty sure the OP didn't look to hard.

Then why pay an athlete millions of dollars and not sell what he's wearing? Sorry but you're a little off base on this. I was in the Chicago store and there wasn't one item of clothing that Adam Scott wears. You don't sponsor an athlete if you don't want exposure. They're clearly making a push in North America by opening large retail stores in major cities thus they should make an effort to sell his apparel.

Go back to the store, stand outside at opening time, and ask the first 50 customers who enter the store who Adam Scott is and you cannot cherry pick guys in polos and Titleist ball caps ;)

And how can you be sure they didn't have any items of clothing that Adam Scott wears?

Β

The point is, Uniqlo is not capitalizing on a huge opportunity, which has little to no downside.

Β

1. Adam Scott is known as a well-dressed player... people like his stuff, and will buy his looks.

2. it would be a very low-cost initiative to promote what he wears, his success, and how to buy what he wears.

3. Golf is a very high priced sport, including apparel, Uniqlo has the unique opportunity to take a lot of consumers from the equally nice looking, but higher cost brands.

Β

Even if this is a small portion of their business, it could be hugely expanded.

Β

Fair points :) and I am sure 'more' could be done to capitalize on Adam and Novak.

When they initially released the Dry stretch line he was featured way more prominently in their marketing collateral/website, maybe they didn't see their required metrics hit for that and subsequently haven't bothered?

Β

Uniqlo, H&M, whatever looks OK at Macys is where I shop, as I think their stuff is clean and modern, without being too young for someone now their 40s, so while I'm aware of a celebrity's tie-ins with a brand in passing, I guess I've not really thought about it much, before being piqued by this thread.

Β

And I really do question a poster saying they couldn't find something in a shop, when not copping onto all their casual trousers/chinos being a single length.

Β

But again, good points. Especially in regards to getting golfers away from more expensive brands into apparel that still provides the same styles they like.

I do not think Uniqlo is worried about Golf sales, they are killing it around the world. I buy their clothes all the time for work, casual and golf and I absolutely love their stuff. The quality is great for the price. Nicer than Gap, H&M, and in some segments (chinos, sweaters, casual shirts) just as good if not better than J Crew and Banana Republic which are about 300% more expensive. The point is, they make some great golf clothes, Adam Scott wears some great combos and you CAN buy all the stuff he wears. Some of it may go out of stock on their website but Uniqlo is great at adding new supply and styles almost weekly. I recommend their stuff to everyone for all different occasions, I even think their sweat pants are better quality than UA and Nike. Their Heattech stuff is awesome for winter golf and its almost too warm. What other brand can you get 2 polos, 2 pair of pants, 2 sweaters for about $130?

Β

Disclosure, I do not work at Uniqlo. Who doesn't like high quality cheap clothes?

Β

One thing people should know, their pants only come in 34 length. Perfect for me (6'4'') but other people would need to get them hemmed which may add to the cheap cost of the pants. Their slim fit chinos are the best pants on the planet (not for golf, i do not like the 5 pocket look for golf, their dry performance pants are top shelf for golf)

Β

No I think you are missing the point. Sponsorship is not always about the clothing, it is about getting their name on the tv cameras. That is why a company like them pays for sponsorship. There are so many sponsors that buy placement on hats, shirts, etc that have no intentions of featuring that specific athlete on their website or giving them their own line of product.

Β

By the way I was wrong, uniqlo is a $13 billion company worldwide with $1 billion in sales in the us. What percentage of that is golf clothing sales? I bet it's below .5%

From the fact that it seems quite a number of golfers on Golfwrx, the elite of the amateur golfing world :swoon: ... now want to go in to Uniqlo, which is both known and intended to be a low cost clothing shop... would demonstrate the sponsorship works very well. (It's quite odd that some even WANT the Uniqlo logo on the clothing, but each to their own.)

Β

Once you're in Uniqlo, you will very, very likely purchase other items - nice fabrics and good prices...

I hereby repeat my earnest recommendation for the Uniqlo Tencel Boxer briefs. Excellent in hot, humid weather for golf and everyday wear, everywhere... just beware there's versions in Pima cotton - which while nice, is not as fabulous as Tencel. I also warn you against the 'low rise' version of the Tencel boxer brief - low rise is for girls/women and prepubuscent boys with twiglets for legs and undescended testicles.

I was at Uniqlo's flagship store in Tokyo Ginza in November 2015 and couldn't find anything related to Adam Scott or Novak Djokovic in any of their floors (I think they have 10..)

Β

Certainly looked like they're doing ok without the athlete promos though

Β

I went to the SF downtown store a couple weeks ago, they had one whole section for golf/Adam Scott.

Β

Pants, polos, belts, etc....

Β

They even had a poster of him, he was laying down in the beach or sand, in some chinos. Lol.

Β

That's an old ad, don't know why it was still up.
