Help Needed - Planning Golf Trip for Group to Scotland

I'm trying to plan a trip to Scotland for golf next year, and need a little guidance.

 

Have any of you used a group service to book/plan the entire trip?

 

What is the ideal number of players (thinking about travel arrangements, not sure what the ideal number is for a small bus, etc)

 

Have any of you put together a guys trip like this, what are some do's and dont's?

 

Any input would be appreciated.

I've used a service in Scotland that does this all the time. Its their business. I went as a single but do know that they did groups up to large numbers. Generally up to 16 is not any problem for the buses I've seen used in Scotland. Lots of 8-12 groups have done it.

 

You need to figure out for sure exactly where you want to play for everyone and what you want the service to do for you. They can do almost everything including booking hotel and dinner reservations if so desired. They will help make recommendations on courses, but you should have some ideas as well.

So, what's the name of the service? I'm looking to have someone else plan it...we just want to write the check and enjoy.

There must be tons of these companies out there. I am Scottish, I see shed loads of golf tourists picked up at the airport, decant at big courses all the time. Google golf tours Scotland and no doubt a host of options will come up. I can't vouch for which ones are good since I don't need to use them for obvious reasons.

As another Scot I've never had need to use a tour company but I believe Perry Golf have a good reputation. I have no idea what their sort of pricing is. www.perrygolf.com

Check out http://www.graylynloomis.com/. He's on the Scottish golf podcast frequently and he will put together an itinerary which you can self book pretty easily for a very nominal fee.

Our group of 9 used Traveling the Fairways last summer for a week of golf in Scotland. The service was top notch, and all lodging and transportation was taken care of. I would definitely use them again.

I have been on three trips to Scotland and two to Ireland with friends. Each time we went as a foursome. It made travel and lodging easy--one van and shared rooms--two per room.

 

We used Golf International. Fabulous service and planning. They arranged tee times and lodging. We traveled "first class", so we were booked into excellent hotels. GI will fit a trip to your budget, however. If you don't want to stay at the Old Course Hotel, they have lower priced options. They arranged caddies for us. We had great, guaranteed tee times. They helped when we were on the road as well. For the old course, a representative met us at the course and made sure we were checked in and ready to play. On one trip we had flight problems; GI contacted the course, arranged a later tee time and we still got our around in.

I have been to the UK several times and did all the planning myself, it is not whole lot of work.

 

With everything so easy to book on the net, you really got to be pretty lazy to not be able to do it yourself.
