Should Titleist be concerned?

Any time you sell a $1 product for $5 you should be concerned. Economics will tell you that the gravy train ends sooner or later.

So should the other ball manufacturers that sell their $1 product for $5 worry as well?

To a lesser extent since their stream of profits from balls isn't as great as Titleist's. Titleist lives and dies by their ProV1.

I don't think so. There's only so much left you can do to a golf ball and many of the other OEMs have caught up. Titleist can't pay everybody.

That's what I'm beginning to wonder, though. If there is only so much that can be done to a golf ball (within the rules), what happens when the other OEM's catch up or surpass Titleist? In the 70's, McGregor and Wilson Staff had the market locked on irons and wedges. Now, Wilson is not a huge player and McGregor is nowhere to be found. I don't want the same to happen to Titleist.

why don't you want "it" to happen to Titelist? It's a business, not a human being (unless you are SCOTUS)....do you have an emotional connection to the financial health of the fund that bought the Titelist business?

Titleist invested in me early in my career and I have invested in the brand emotionally and financially since, regardless of who owns the company now. I'm not sure why I have to defend my appreciation for a brand, but that's why I want them to continue to do well.

Why does this thread even exist ? Your basis is that since the make up of this weeks leaderboard doesn't favour the ProV1 ball count, that Titleist should be worried ? If you check the ball counts every week, Titleist is generally far ahead.

I love when someone complains about the thread, but clicks, reads and post in the thread.

I hope I had an isolated experience. The Freestyles overall were super comfy for me, although the insole under the foot bed of the right shoe had an odd ridge which I could feel. Still quite comfy overall and I do honestly feel the flexibility of the shoe contributed to some of my longest drives/tee shots, no kidding. I just felt my feet became an active and integral part of my swing better with these shoes than more rigid designs.

Alas, I had to return mine. I play early mornings in wet grass. For the first several rounds, my feet were dry, but after about the 5th round, give or take, my feet and socks were soaked completely. After the round I took them back and got a full refund. I was an early adopter of the DNA's and had the sole separation issue with those, so when my Freestyles leaked, it was time to return.

I truly hope mine was an exception and perhaps a defective pair and hope yours work out for you. If they do, I may try these again at a later time. Good luck!

Some Callaway tour pros use Titleist balls.

I don't believe ANY Tour player CHOOSES to play a non-Titleist ball (I.e. Their club company doesn't make a ball, etc).

There are a few... Miguel Angel Jimenez for one, KJ Choi another, and DeChambeau just signed with Bridgestone

I like Titleist a lot, but it's clear they have a great ball/shoe/glove deal for the guys that don't have a ball deal in their club manufacturer contract and that's probably why they get the vast majority of those players.

He did apologize for his original post, which is more than 90%+ do and I found to be very classy. HaHa, maybe it's a girl thing :) Maddie

Titleist is my favorite golf company overall, but it is clear that other OEM's are producing equipment that rivals them. I hope Titleist can continue to separate themselves because this game needs companies that can be staples for the business side and Titleist is certainly one of them in golf.

I love Titleist balls but my wallet does not. I also love Titleist hats and gloves and my wallet doesn't mind as much. Wait, what were we talking about?

Early in hand photos of the new GT2 models t the truck.  As soon as they show up on the range in player's bags we'll get some better from the top photos and hopefully some comparison photos against the last model.
