Does the White Hot XG feel too soft or is it just me?

Hi everyone,

Is it just me or does the White Hot XG feel too soft? I've been using a Cameron Newport for the last year and used a Ping Anser before that. The other day, I tried out the White Hot XG 2 ball (why? because I'm a ho and can't help myself ... must change putters ... and everything else for that matter!) and concluded that it felt almost too soft. I felt there wasn't a lot of feedback. Is this just me or does anyone else feel like there isn't a lot of feedback in these putters?

it's even softer than the G2i insert, which I found way too soft.......

The first two rounds I played with my white hot XG #9 (the same one Phil Mickelson used btw to win the Masters) I struggled with a lot. Practiced with it for a while and took it to the course and absolutely loved it. But I do think it is too soft especially for high end balls with very soft covers e.g. the Pro V's, Srixon Zurs etc. You'd have to go with perhaps two piece balls with a harder cover to really get more feel from this insert. I used Callaway's warbird balls and they were fine with these putters. Must admit though that not all balls are suited to this kind of soft insert. I'm still wondering how Mickey gets his feel from his putter.

There is absolutely no doubt the XG insert is very soft - especially when compared to a milled-face putter. You cannot expect to just pick one up and immediately have the same feel you are used to. I recetly swotched to a 2-ball SRT putter....it took a while to get used to, but after I did, I found the switch to be very worthwhile.

I just went from the Scotty Red X to the XG#9. I have been making everything in sight. I think for me the feel of the XG#9 from a tempo standpoint has more than offset the feedback from the insert. I felt like I was getting to mechanical with the Scotty Cameron putters (I also own 3 others). I tend to be a feel player anyway and especially around the greens. I will give up distance for feel any day.

I agree the feel is just too soft. I had a...... ( Don't even remember the model it was that bad). oh well it was a face balanced blade and it had great balance and was great on carpet. But once i took it for a spin it was a whole other story, bad control, bad feel, no pace, it was just horiffic. I play YES! putters and there is no comparison. I am not a soft insert guy. I wanted to like it but it just was horrible.

This is all pretty subjective, but I happen to disagree with those who say the insert is "too soft" and "doesn't provide feedback" -- obviously its just not your preference.

The YES! putters that I've used feel tinny and unbalanced. I personally find the Odyssey putters much more responsive and better made.

It all comes down to what you like, and what you don't like. I love my 2-Ball XG. It did take me a little while to get used to but I'm a great believer that the new insert provides consistent roll.

After all, one of the world's greatest and most natural putters, Phil Mickelson, seems to use the XG #9 pretty effectively!

I know it's probably all in my head, but I found the XG #9 to feel better than the other models: still soft but much more responsive than the other model. My tempo was excellent as well. I've always been a center shafted guy so I was surprised at how much I liked it. Will need to test further before I decide to buy.

I was trying out a white hot it was on sale. I was putting well with it. Odyssey #1, the pro said after a few rounds you will feel inconsistencies with that insert and might find judging your speeds difficult (Hmm tell Furyk or Harrington that). If he never said that I would have bought it. He said I would benefit more from a putter with a milled face and since it is your putter be prepared to invest in something that has more recent technology than the older Odyssey. The black series were too expensive. The YES felt nice but the Callie and Tracy seemed bulky and I did not like the the alignment lines were limited. Dianna was okay but I wanted more of an angle / offset on the hosel. Any suggestions of what others might be out there that have a firmer consistent feel? Apart from Dual Force or White Hot XG?
