Has anyone played here recently? Last time I was there it was in terrible condition I think over a year ago.

I would call. Bermuda greens usually get punched in July.

They overseed. So spring is the best it will get there IMO.

The price you pay vs what you get isn't great.

 

Greens are average at best, Layout is averag, Course doesn't drain well, etc. But I guess if I lived in the area, there isn't much else to offer.

Cobblestone is a beast of a layout IMO. Wasn't in the absolute best conditions last time I played it (over a year ago), but I really enjoyed that course. Love the elevation changes.

I love the layout of Cobblestone. Though I've taken people there who said please never bring me back here they struggled so much with the layout. But as mentioned, condition is really hit or miss and summer weather conditions play a big part in how the greens hold up. I haven't played it this year, but I have to imagine with the heat and lack of rain here this summer the greens are getting toasty. BTW- I have called them before to ask about course condition and told it was great only find the greens really chewed up. For whatever reason, probably that its a county course, the clientele does not repair ball marks. Their par 3s have looked like the lunar surface at times.

That's prob the main reason I'll never go back.

 

I've also called in the past asking about cart path only, aeration, or course conditions only to be lied to. Made the drive out and booked only to find out the exact opposite of what I was told.

Walked it on Saturday morning and it was in great shape. I guess the Bermuda loves the heat because it has been in very good shape all summer. Some of the bunkers needs some sand but otherwise, pretty good. A couple of comments in the thread that I'll reply to here. One, doesn't drain well: that is very true, after a rain there are puddles and soggy areas for days. Being a county course the clientele doesn't fix ball marks: I haven't really noticed that. The greens are pretty firm so maybe most people don't notice that the might have left a tiny dimple. It isn't like City Club Marietta where the greens are really soft and people don't fix the craters they leave behind.

 

It is long, for me, and difficult, for me, but I enjoy playing there because it is challenging and the views are nice. You do have to hit it in the fairway or you are going to lose a lot of balls. And when they have their Mens Golf Associate tournaments, the pin placements are wicked. A high handicapper like me doesn't stand a chance. The pace of play is decent and rarely have we finished in over 4:15 on the weekend.

In the summer, the course is usually in good shape.

 

However, the winter is a completely different story. Greens aren't ever cut and become dormant. Terrible putting surfaces. Also, the wet winters in GA aren't kind to any course that doesn't drain. Literally a SWAMP.

 

However, the course is a solid track. Hopefully they have better luck this year with the overseeding.

Cobblestone is one course I will not play any more. Every time I have played it, I would play lousy that round and continue the lousy play for the month following playing there. I just do not like the design or setup of the course. But I know others rave about the design and it was considered one of the top courses in Georgia in the 1990's.

Cobblestone gets some rough reviews, here and other places. As it stands I played there two weeks ago and it was in good shape. The greens normally hold up pretty well in the summer. From Memorial Day to Labor Day it is normally in pretty decent shape and it is warm(read hot) that rains dry up pretty fast.

 

They did get some kind of disease on the greens last summer.

 

However during the winter since it doesn't drain well it can be very wet.

I think they have GSGA tournament there this weekend. We tried to get a tee time last weekend at Cobble and could not, we went up to Governors Towne instead and really enjoyed it. Course was in good shape, NXT range balls, and never had to wait on a shot all day.

I replaced my 15-year old golf bag with a new Sun Mountain and transferred all my clubs over last night. I turned my golf bag over to make sure there was nothing left inside and out popped a golf ball and this name tag. I'm guessing Ashley must have cleaned my clubs after a round and her tag fell in my bag. I've been playing Cobblestone since '98 so no telling how long that has been in there.
