Van Winkles 12 yo bourbon

Gents,

So I was able to purchase a bottle of Van Winkles Special Reserve 12 year old lot "B" bourbon for retail. It's possible to turn a 400% profit if I sell it.

I'm thinking I savor it over time, or get my three best together and we drink it one night, or I sell it and buy the 917D3 when it comes out!

What would you guys do?!?!

keep it and savor it. start off a night of drinking with a little jigger of it (less than an ounce) and then of course a little more on super special occasion.

While it's a good bourbon, you can get stuff just as good for under $50 easily. The Pappy name carries such a high black market value that it's hard to justify keeping it if you can find it. Good bourbon, nowhere NEAR worth the money people are willing to pay for it. Sell it and enjoy a new driver.

At a certain level I'm just not good enough to discern alcohol. Anything above 17 years old and it is the wallet and not the palette that feels the difference.

Thanks for the input guys. I think I'm going to try and sell the bottle on craigslist. Not sure how wide the market is for such things. If it doesn't sell within a reasonable amount of time, I'll likely start drinking it!

I'd sell it if you can get 400% markup. I have a few nice bottles of bourbon but haven't paid more than $60 for anything. I was not anymore impressed with Van Winkle than other stuff I have had.

I would sell it. The only PVWs that I think are "worth" it is the 13 year old rye and the 15 year old, depending on price of course. I have bottles of the 12, 15, 20 and 23 and I'm close to selling them as I bought them years ago before the craze and would probably rather have the cash.

I would enjoy the bottle with a few of my closest friends.

It is a good whisky. Drivers will come and go, they are like women, beautiful when new and every time you hit it you smile just a little bit. Then that driver starts nagging pulling you this way or pushing you that way. After awhile you wake up one day and you don't look at her the same. You start thinking I could always upgrade. It is hard to do as you have had a relationship for awhile. You go out and see what your younger friends have. The newer models don't quiet have the marks on them as your old girl and you remember what ii was like to have that feeling.

However the memories of good friends and good whisky will last a lifetime or you will drink the whole damn bottle and not remember. Either way cheers.

I'm in a similar boat with some of the rare and harder to find beers that I have. I could easily sell them on the resale market for 3-4 times retail and make a pretty penny. I've been saving much of them for a while now.

I'm getting married soon and I'm legitimately excited about sharing a good portion of my rare beers with my good craft beer loving friends leading up to and during my wedding. I'm sure the memories of that will be more valuable to me than flipping a bunch of bottles for profit.

So the most intriguing option so far is passing the bottle along to a GolfWRX member who has access to Titleist products at a discount, which would end up being a win win for both of us! I did notice people putting disclaimers on their ads saying the purchase was for the bottle and that it just so happened to be unopened etc...... do you think those people are getting into trouble?
