iPhone/Apple Watch Apps... Which one do you use every time out?

Recommended Posts

okay, so I have looked for a thread, and can't find one so I am starting this one, damnit...

I am looking for a good, easy-to-use App to keep score and utilize GPS/Rangefinder capabilities for my Apple Watch and the iPhone tethering.

Has anyone had any success with these? And what apps are they?

Currently I am trying out the Hole 19 app, but it's shot recording is a little wonky.

Anybody got some better options?

Thanks in Advance

I've been using golf shot for the past two months. I play about 3 times per week, usually with a buddy who has a bushnell range finder and we've been getting consistent distance readings 9/10 times. It tracks all of your stats and has built in golf now, these two features allowed me to delete delete the dedicated apps off my phone. I couldn't be happier.

Try game golf. I believe it's free and on the Apple Watch.

I'm actually going to give it a go on mine tomorrow morning.

Very curious to see how you like it! I'm assuming you don't have a Game Golf device, correct?

Actually, I do but the motor went out so it doesn't vibrate anymore and, quite frankly, I hated wearing/using the device. I never remembered to tap my clubs and sometimes it wouldn't work, etc. I didn't even know they had the Apple Watch app until this week when I saw Crossfield using it. I'll report back after my round tomorrow

Ok so today was a big failure with the game golf system on my Apple Watch. I haven't used game golf in a while (not once this season) and of course my bag setup was different than what i had in the system. Also, I tried to just start it up on the first tee and go.....well that was a mistake. I couldn't really figure out how to use it and by hole 2 it was a distraction so I scrapped it. I'm going to have to play around with it first and get comfortable using it before taking it to the course next time.

Yikes, not a great start. I've always been interested in the Game Golf/Arccos systems but every time I thought about getting one, I just thought it seemed like too much work during the round. I don't want to have to worry about making sure it's activated, or editing strokes/shots and looking to see if it captured a practice swing.

Try The Grint. I was using it til I got an Arccos system. As far as I can remember, it gives you the stuff you're looking for and is simple to use.

I looked at The Grint, but it doesn't have accurate maps and some of my courses over here...

it does look easy to use.

incidentally, I found this forum here from almost a year ago, for those that are interested, it provides some good, but slightly dated, information.

people seem to rave about Hole 19, and evidently, someone can in fact use GolfLogix as an app on the Watch.

I have been using hole 19 all season and love it. It keeps my handicap and input on shots of I want to keep up with it. The scorecard on the phone is easy to read and input on the watch is easy. Distances take 2 sec to load once you're looking at the watch but that doesn't bother me at all.

The fact it's free is a huge bonus. I haven't used the pay golf shot app but the free one didn't impress me.

been a golfshot user since 2012 but only until last year starting keeping my score for my handicap. Before i would just use it for yardage. I have it on my iPhone and really really enjoy it. my playing partner also has a bushnell and the yardage is often very close, roughly 2-3yrds difference. I plan on getting a 42mm SS watch soon (hopefully the price goes down when/if 2.0 is announced). it's a great app and very easy to use.

I was a Golfshot user since I started in 2011 and then made the switch to theGrint last year. I haven't looked back. The only thing I don't like is you have to enter your opponents emails in order to score their round too. Golfshot, you could just add them to the scorecard and they get an email with full stats. It was great. I really hope theGrint changes that sometime soon.

Search theGrint thread man. It's great, plus it's a little community of it's own. I'm friended with the WRXers that use it and I feel I've become friends with them just by seeing their games more often than not. It's great. Plus, it has the best stats I have seen of any of the current apps. Not just the typical number putts, FIR, GIR, score.

Another great benefit of theGrint is their customer service. Any feedback you send them, they are always taking it into consideration and always respond. If you have issues, they make it right. It's amazing. I highly recommend it.

Swing by Swing is hands down my favorite app. For $14/year you get a ton of cool features like the yardage with wind/slope. Good stuff

I've been using game golf on my iPhone for a couple months and haven't had any problems with it and the yardages are pretty spot on at the courses I've played while using it. I used swing by swing in the past and it's ok. Not as accurate with yardages and you can't pin a location on the green without using a paid membership

I've been using Golflogix the past two years. I like the graphics, ad the distances are accurate to within a couple of yards. Not sure if it is Apple Watch compatible.

I use golflogix too and they recently released an upgrade that made it easier to use. There is an Apple Watch app to go with it.

I tried it today but not sure I was doing it right. Do you have to input every shot? It was weird if I waited until I was done with the hole to input my score.

In that regard, I much preferred hole 19 but I know what I'm doing with it. Fairways and scoring all goes in at once after the completion of the hole.

I have up on game golf after 3 holes and just figured I was doing it wrong.

gotta say after today's round that Hole 19 is pretty damned easy to use.

I had issues when I was out of signal, but it kept them all, and then when we cam around the mountain, cleared into a cell tower radius, BLAM it updated automatically, so thats a huge bonus: it works offline and tracks your score throughout...

I dunno if thats a common feature about these apps, but it (perhaps overly) impressed me.

also, walking with my buddy who has a different system he bought and subscribes to in Oz, but our yardages were accurate to within about a meter or two with each other.

obviously the app would be WAY better with GPS mapping... i simply dont know why they cant utilize that function

Give it a go. I've had good success with it. My favorite feature is it will give you a yardage with the slope and wind factors. It's helped me tremendously, especially on hilly and windy courses.

You do have to input every shot either right before or after you hit it to get the most accurate yardages. It took me a couple rounds to get used to it but now I will usually put in my shot as I'm checking the distance before I hit.
