Question about wedge shafts

I currently play MP-67s with PX 6.5s in them, and I was just wondering if it is benficial/worth switching the shafts if my wedges from the stock wedge shafts to match my irons? I find that I hit my wedges too high at times, though it's more than likely my swing. I was just wondering if it is a good idea or if there are any other options as far as wedge shafts that might work.

If I were you, I'd look into changing shafts. Wedge shafts especially are designed to accomadate such a huge range of different swing types that for someone like you (an assumption based on the championship banner and blades in your sig), there's a good chance the stock shafts are bad fit.

 

However, I wouldn't look to other board members for recommendations unless they specifically have a similar swing, and prefer the same type of flight characteristics. What you call "high" may not be high enough for some, and could easily lead to misleading recommendations. However, since you play a cut muscle blade, the position of the COG relative ot the face shouldn't be too different when comparing you irons and wedges, so you'd probably be ok with using the same shafts as your irons.

The S400 is a popular wedge shaft from OEM wedge companies because it's cheap. It's a manufacturing "second" sorted out of the S300 production run from shafts that weight too much to meet the S300 spec.

 

The S200 is the same - too light to meet the S300 weight spec.

i play titleist 695mbs +1/2" with tt dg lite x100s and was wondering if i should play the same stiffness in my cleveland cg10 wedges. what effect would i have to the same shaft? what about swing weights and stuff. any info on this subject would be great. thanks

Is the DG Wedge Flex that you find in most shafts a S400 or a S200 shaft?

I've seen this problem with a lot of players who hit their wedges to high and there are several reasons for it! , without going in to all of them I would simply suggest putting a softer standard rifle shaft in your wedges since you are a rifle player anyway.. try a 9 iron shaft or even an 8 iron standard weight rifle in lets say your 56* and watch your ball flight come down... and then change out your other wedges when your ready. I did this to my wedges several yrs ago and for many people since then and it works allmost every time!!! good luck..

I am curious as to how a softer tipped shaft helps hit the ball lower. Did you change your swing? Maybe I am just not getting something. I have always found softer tipped shafts to hit the ball higher with more spin.

Did not say softer tip" said softer shaft! still keeping with A 6.5 standard rifle in the case of the poster on this topic. cutting an 8 or 9 shaft down to length of wedge brings the bend point closer to your hands creating a late release affect wich is good for the average player because most people don't have the correct angle or ball position... this works with either t-tip or p-tip but you could negate the affect with p-tip if you over tip it, so if it's p-tip cut only to trimming instructions for 8 or 9 install... even a 7 iron shaft depending on the wedge. this has been going on for a long time, I didn't come up with the idea" I just new about it! give it a try......

if you do go with the px i would say to step down a half a flex at least, just heard thats the way to go

I did the opposite and I'm quite happy! Control, not length, is most important with the money-clubs.
